Omega General Help / Re: Changing Water Pump
« on: 15 April 2010, 09:45:22 »
just to bump this back up with another question....

Stripped all out and changed the water pump last night (was light and good weather so thought I better get on with it), put all backtogether, just waiting for a new aux drive belt BUT,

Should I have sealed water pump with VX grey sealer as used on oil cooler plate or should the o ring suffice???

Thanks ppl.  Will be doing it friday (weather permitting).

Cambelt & tensioners were done about a year ago so not needed doing.

Will have to try and get some sort of plastic shield in place to protect the cambelt then.

Is it as easy as it looks on the 2.5 v6?

Remove air intake duct, remove SAI metal pipe, loosen pully bolts, remove aux belt, remove pully and water pump.

any special tools required?

Omega General Help / Re: Code 73....

Nope, no running issues after plugs / leads / crank have been replaced.

Just been thrown the code 73. Car runs fine, no daft filters just bog standard one, and it is going very black!  :-[  should have been changed ages ago!  ::)

MAF low voltage, I am guessing that this could be caused by a dirty air filter could it?

Or is it the MAF needing replacing?

Problem solved. Replaced leads and plugs again (found one plug had cracked when i took it out) and crank sensor.

Misfire is there all the time, smell of petrol when starting from cold so assuming a cyl is not firing.

Is a lumpy tickover and real lack of power when accelerating. Once it has droped in top at 60ish when you accelerate you can feel the serious unbalance of the engine where somethings is not fireing, if you kick it down it will slowly accel and not feel as unbalanced.

so is it worth trying another set of leads and plugs or not? Would crank sensor cause it to run rough? i.e not sparking at correct time?

leads are connected the correct way round. Next idea please!

That was the reason I replaced the plugs and leads, because of the cam cover gaskets going.

99% sure as I checked, checked and rechecked as I was doing it but will make sure again now!

update....

finally got round to compression testing it and results are:

Cyl 1 - 110
Cyl 2 - 120
Cyl 3 - 110
Cyl 4 - 120
Cyl 5 - 110
Cyl 6 - 130

as all are around the same I guess not a compression problem.

what should I look at next? replace leads & plugs again? or is there another suspected cause?

Omega General Help / Not firing on all cylinders?
« on: 17 February 2010, 12:15:31 »
Had usual cam cover leak, changed gaskets, plugs and leads. Car had been hunting on tickover for a while which I attributed to plug wells full of oil.
Going along m4 it suddenly lost at least one cylinder, no fault codes so I assumed dispack blown. Changed dispack but still not firing right.

Any help appreciated!!!

Have plugged in "My Naff Code Reader" havd have live data if it will be of any help! if someone can tell me how to upload!

got my tester, now how do I go about it?

My guess

plenum off, injector rail off, allplugs out pull fuel feed fuse, disconenct LV plug from dis-pack, test each cylinder in turn?

is this the correct way? what results should I be expecting?

nope, didn't drop the maf or even remove or unplug it as it was just held out the way (disconnected pipe from air box, removed bellows and lifted air ram out the way) while i put the new rad in and dropped the fan back in.
