Omega General Help / Re: Temp gauge not moving
« on: 02 January 2010, 08:24:54 »
False alarm ! I haven't sorted it ! I'm getting all of the above symptoms described - exactly ! ECO pressed and at idle - temp rises, left a bit longer - fans kick in, driving - temp barely moves, summer all seemed fine, winter - sh*te.

A sincere thanks to you all for your input - now I know for sure it's the stat and obviously some of you have experienced this problem before.

I'm speaking with Loo-Knee later today

Cheers guys

Surely if the stat was u/s the engine would not reach  operating temperature !!

I've sorted the problem, I wanted to make sure it was the stat before going any further so whilst checking the top and bottom hoses for heat / flow etc I noticed the two front fans were turning, as I'd only just started the engine I thought this a bit strange, so after checking the wiring and plugs for 20 minutes for any signs of obvious faults and drawing a blank I sat in the car, 'pi**ed off and a fine set of brass boll**ks to boot', then I noticed the heater was on ! I turned the heater off so as to heat the engine up a bit quicker and the two fans went off, I switched the heater on again and the two fans came back on ! I then turned the heater to ECO and the fans went off again, I left the engine running, heater in ECO mode, and the temp gauge started to rise, I left it for a while and all the fans kicked in, this told me the thermostat must be working correctly, took the car for a run and now everything is working as it should be (obviously I hear you saying). So do I take it that below a certain outside temperature I should switch to ECO mode !!! This is all probably obvious to you but it never crossed my mind, I'm just glad it's sorted so long as I'm right about the ECO mode !

Thanks for your help guys, also managed to clean the pollen filter whilst I was messing around thanks to looking around the forum and threads.

Would appreciate confirmation on the ECO bit if anyone can help  :)

Cheers guys, you've convinced me to book the bugar in to the dealers, it'll cost I know but it sounds awkward and time consuming.

Happy New year to all Omega owners, can anybody point me in the right direction please, the temperature gauge on my 02 2.6 Elite hardly moves, it barely comes off the bottom line, it's only just started acting up, the heaters seam ok so I'm thinking the thermostat is ok, does anybody know where the temp sender is ? is it the 'bigish' plug type switch on the top right-hand side of the radiator  ? any help appreciated.
Cheers

Omega General Help / Re: Leaking rad
« on: 01 January 2010, 17:19:08 »
Is it really worth the hassle, the only true cure is a rad change, be it taking a chance on a second hand unit or replacing with new / reconditioned, a rad sealant may well be a short term fix but any sealant will only clog up the water ways eventually - pay now don't pay later !!
Good luck whatever way you decide to go

Omega General Help / Re: Oil filter housing 2.6
« on: 06 November 2009, 22:53:24 »
It's all part of the casting, but I think you're right, it's not leaking at the moment so I'll leave it, but next oil change I think I'll have a go at the modification with the canister type !
Cheers buddy

Omega General Help / Oil filter housing 2.6
« on: 06 November 2009, 19:44:47 »
Trying to change the engine oil & filter on my 02 2.6 today and whilst trying to change the filter the whole of the bloody housing started to turn, finally got it off but the cast that locates into the block had snapped. To compound the issue I was on a pit in work when I shouldn't have been, the only thing I could do was put it back in place and tighten the hollow allen bolt that secures the housing to the block, it seemed to have worked but does anyone have any views on it  with regards to fitting it back with the locating cast missing ? that's if the cast is just for locating in position !! any advise welcome.
