Omega General Help / Urgent advice, broken down.
« on: 26 November 2016, 14:47:00 »
Afternoon Chaps, I hope someone can advise me on this. Just drive my 2.6 for about 8 miles with no problems. Pulled up at shopping complex and went in for about half hour on returning the car fired up, juddered and stopped. I did it again and it did exactly the same, over and over again.

I can't hear the fuel pump kicking in when I put the key in so I checked all the fuses under the dash but can't see any problem with them. Fuel gauge is saying 1/4 tank which should be right from when I filled up.

Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing this, where is the fuse for the fuel pump and am I correct in saying it should make a noise when the ignition is turned on?

Omega General Help / 2.6 Radiator
« on: 18 October 2016, 11:02:55 »
Hopefully someone can advise.

My radiator sprung a serious leak yesterday on my 2001 2.6 auto estate. I ordered a new one from my car parts supplier and they got me a Nissens 63073a rad.

Got the old girl home last night and on stripping her down I found that my rad is different from the one supplied. Mine has an independent oil cooler separate from the main radiator where as the radiator provided is like the old style with the oil cooler connectors in the end of the radiator.

I have rung them this morning and their supplier is only listing one type rad and they are saying this is the correct one. I'm positive it isn't correct but could someone advise??

Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 Air Bag Light
« on: 23 August 2016, 11:20:34 »
Well the old girl failed the MOT as expected but not really bad at all. Just Airbag light, handbrake, headlight adjustment and number plate light.

Got airbag light removed this morning by a local garage for a tenner so now on to the brakes, at least it's sunny today which will make it a bit more pleasant.

Lol yes I should have done it sooner but with work and juggling being a single dad time just got away from me  ;D

I will call round a couple of the local garages in the morning and see if they can do it and how much there gonna rape me for  ::)

Omega General Help / 2.6 Air Bag Light
« on: 21 August 2016, 15:23:49 »
Hopefully someone can advise me on this one.

Some time ago my steering wheel squid decided to collapse and when it did my airbag light came on. I picked up a good second hand one from unlucky Alf and have eventually got round to fitting it this afternoon as my mot is due to tomorrow morning.

Changing went ok, and it was an identical swop. However on reassembly the air bag light is still on. Should this turn itself off or do you need a ready to get rid. Or maybe there's another fault??

Your advise would be appreciated as I know it will fail tomorrow due to the light being on, oh it's a 2001 2.6 estate

Omega General Help / Re: Strange Radio Question
« on: 20 June 2016, 20:22:34 »
Yes the power sounder was removed before I got it five years ago. Once I'd started the engine and turned it off then locked car it didn't do it again. It's a bit strange.

Omega General Help / Strange Radio Question
« on: 19 June 2016, 03:23:46 »
Ok, this is a complete weird question.

My omega is a 2001 2.6 Auto Estate

Went out this afternoon shopping and got home around 5pm, car parked on drive as usual, shopping removed and car locked. All windows shut and radio/cd turned off!!!!

Visitors arrived about 8.30 nothing usual outside, visitors left as 12.30 and notices stereo on the car booming out music. Unlocked car, turned radio off and relocated car.

Went to bed and woke at 3.15am to music blaring out outside, here's me thinking I wish that taxi would piss off only to realise/dawn on me is it my car. Locked out of the window and could see radio lights on through car window. Went down opened car sure enough it was on and blaring out.

Turned radio off, turned engine on then off and radio on. Turned volume down and turned radio on/off multiple times, no issues. Got out locked car and no radio.

What would cause the radios/cd to come on of its own accord, is this even possible???

Omega General Help / Re: Broken Down 2.6

Well that was an evening of fun, stripped all wiring back at front of engine, checked all cables and re-wrapped. Removed all connections, cleaned and refitted, did same under the car put new fuses in and blew them again.

Removed plenum and started checking all cables to notice only one cable going to tear multiram, one had cut through and was hanging down onto the manifold heat shield causing the short. Reconnected, taped up and made sure not catching anything. Put some charge back in the battery, replaced fuse again and hey presto she's back running.

Thanks for all your advice chaps, saved me a fortune not listening to the mechanic 👍👍

Ok, home from work and now looking at he old girl. Straight away found second 30amp gust in fuse box next to the wing also blown so that's one blown in each fuse box.

It actually blows as you turn the ignition on and crank the engine.

Well she's now home and on the drive, plus I've now got 10 spare fuses but the old girl will have to wait until tonight/tomorrow for more investigation as at work.

I will start tracing cables back and report back later. Just hope the rain holds off.

Yes, everything was turned off and keys were not in the ignition.
