General Car Chat / Re: End of the road for my Omega
« on: 12 December 2016, 22:13:55 »
Oh, I like my Omegas! I newer will through them away.

One is the beauty, the other one is the worker. Both mine. The beauty sleeps during wintertime, the worker rests over summer.

So I have enough time to do maintenance on the car that is actual not in use.

Of course any Omega will need expensive repairs over the time. Learn to do it by yourself!

Bodywork, suspension service, brakes, timing belt? Not a real problem!

Learn to do and keep the car. I did so and I am very happy with that. A selfmade Omega is not expansive!

Omega General Help / Re: Computer help needed.

Hi bigron

Wrong column...

When you install a new OS on your computer, the hard disk will be formatted. That means, everything on it will be lost. So you have to save everything you want to hold on a external medium before you start. Personal data, downloads, and installation files.

Then you can kill the OS and install a new one.

During installation of any OS I prefer to set up two partitions on the hard disk. First partition is the OS partition, second partition is the data partition.

If you need any any new OS in the future, only the C partition will be formatted. Your data partition D will not be touched.

Welcome on board!

Spain seams a good location for Omegas. In northern countrys Omegas are under serious rust attack. How is the situation in Spain?

Very foggy here in Lahr too. Rhine area  :-[

But today after work me and my wife drove a few miles into the Black Forest. Above 800m we found a perfect weather. Cloudless sunny and mild! 10°C on 1000m attitude! Down there in Lahr (160m) fog and -2°C. Extreme inversion conditions, but very fine.....

Hi Doctor Gollum

The Dis was replaced by a brand new part, so I think I can rule it out.

Over next weekend I will exchange cables, plugs and maybe crankshaft sensor. I will use components tested on my saloon as OK.

Hi

THX ;)

The dis box I changed because some cracks in the isolation. But there was no change. In the moment the car runs absolute normal, because it is ugly cold outside and the fault appears only on a hot engine.

Dis cables and plugs looks good and dry, but I like to exchange them next weekend, when I can use the workshop again.

The blow by system I cleaned last spring, including drilling up the hole- screw to 2 mm.

Hi RatVette

Moin moin and a warm welcome to OOF!

I own a 98 X20XEV too. She is a MT saloon, built on 23th July 1998. Typical Omega problems I fixed last summer. She has 212.000 km on the odometer and TUV (MOT) June 2018. At the present time she is sleeping over winter. Daily driver is a 97 Caravan, also X20XEV but AT. Not a beauty, but a perfect long distance runner.

Keep on running!

Omega General Help / X20XEV stutterer
« on: 02 December 2016, 17:11:48 »
Hi out there

There is a little problem with my winter Omega. It is a 97 Estate 2.0i 16V automatic.

When I start the car in the morning, everything is OK. The problems appear, when the engine temperature reaches 85°C. Driving constant with 2000 rpm is absolutely normal. But when I put the hammer down, the engine begins to stutter, specially on high performance (way up in the Black-forest). If revolution reaches 2500 - 3000 rpm everything is OK again and the old boy runs almost 200 km/h. Early this week I drove to Munich - terrible to drive the A8.

But I found out a trick. Because the Omega has automatic transmission I pushed the "S" bottom on the gearbox. So the revolution level is higher and I can avoid the critical range 2000 - 2500 rpm.

But what is the reason?

Hi folks

I read a lot about Omega performance. But Omegas are far away from sports cars. They are soft gliders. So I use them (mainly). By traveling long distance my normal speed is 90...100 mph. For that the X20XEV engine is absolutely enough.

But sometimes, when I am travelling back home from northern Germany to far southwest...I put the hammer down, special around 3 AM . South of Karlsruhe direction south the A5 is unlimited. Boahh... 130 mph. Who needs a V6?

Be lucky Doctor Opti!

You only have the problem by talking to a strange call center.

I have this problem every time when I leave my home. I am a northern man from the North Sea coast (we called it "Waterkante" there) but I live far down southwest near Freiburg.

It is much more easier to talk English with an average Japanese than talk to the bakerman next door. . Badisch is a very strange language....

Hi Mike

Welcome to the OOF!!!

I am from Germany and the Omega scene here in Germany is more than sleepy. But I found the OOF - great forum!

It realy seems, that the OOF is worldwide the most active forum for Omega based cars.

Have fun here  :y

Hi nitro

Omega`s problem is: the car is still to cheap. So a typical Omega driver in Germany is a "drive & waste" user. We called those "last hand cars"

My Omega was also such a car when I bought her in a critical situation. But she saved my .... and became part of the family. Also my wife love this car and I am strictly forbidden to give the Ommi away.

But MOT runs out and I bought another Omega, a AT sedan. My first Omega I stored away. This year I found some time to rebuild. Just for fun I asked in a local workshop about the costs. Outstanding, could have bought 3 Omegas with 2 years MOT for this amount.

But I wanted not another Omega, I wanted this Omega, because she is part of my history. So did it all by myself.

But how many Omega owners can do that? A place is needed, tools are needed and the knowledge how to do.

Now my big little lady is my car for summer. The sedan (of course new MOT too) is for winter use.

Hi Grifter

GOOD LUCK ON THE BATTLEFIELD!!!

Did you look seriously after rust? Ommis have many hidden places  :o

Last year I thought i knew them all, but that was before I rebuilt my sedan.

Omega General Help / Re: What's my 3.0 manual elite worth?
« on: 22 November 2016, 17:12:10 »
Hi prefacelift

It is not the time for selling an Omega. It is the time to buy an Omega and to keep it.

Patience!

Omega B prices will follow Senator B prices. 10 years ago you could get a drive able Senator B 24 V for a handful of coins. Today you have to pay 2.000 € to an object of restoration. Mint Senators are reaching the 10.000 € line.

Keep your Omega and you will remember my word 10 years ahead with a wide smile on your face.

Best regards

Hoping all UK Omegas are still dry ;)

Everything has two sides, even channel orkan Nanette.

Here deepdown southwest Germany we got a a mighty swap of Mediterranean air. Yesterday it was dry and sunny at 18°C here in Lahr. Today temperature in the Bodensee area reached 21°C. Not so bad for end November :)
