Omega General Help / Cam cover gasket - am I missing something
« on: 04 November 2015, 09:52:19 »
Morning all,

Last time I serviced the 2.2 I noticed some oil in the plug wells. No worries I thought, new cam cover gasket should do the trick.

Thing is, I was looking through the history file last night to see when the cam belt is due (which btw is due now too, last done 23k ago, in 2010) and spotted that the gasket was replaced in 2 years and 10k miles ago.

So, my question to the OOF collective is which of these scenarios seems most likely -

a) The replacement work was bodged and just needs doing again.
b) 2 years seems about the right lifespan for that gasket (seems unlikely).
c) I need to replace the gasket and another part to properly cure the leak.
d) something else I haven't thought of.

Thanks all.

So a British-built electric car from a small manufacturer.

I can't see that leaving you stuck at the side of the road at all, nope, not ever  ::)

Surely the advantage of being in a monopolistic industry means you can neatly file those letters along with all the other junk mail  :y

About 4 minutes into the question about the "collapse" of the British steel industry and I'm about to have a oppsing aneurysm.

Also. Billy Bragg; a man I couldn't get tired of punching.  >:(

Fixed :-X

Oh, but.. Sit and hold a lever all day? Heart surgery's a piece of cake in comparison.  ::)

If ever you wanted a prime example of why unionisation is a bad thing....

Beyond pretty much everything that happened in the 70's that is.  ::)

If only patients were reasonable and listened then your point would be very valid. Unfortunately they don't.

So doctors have to write a prescription? What total carp!

As a nation we pander far too much to the stupid. Creating super bugs by handing out antibiotics like smarties, giving 2nd liver transplants to alcoholics who destroyed the first one (George best) instead of someone who might actually look after it. Operating on lung cancer patients who don't stop smoking (my mother in law).

We have enough on as a nation paying for the NHS without pandering to those that won't meet them half way.  >:(

And don't get me started on homeopathy, Reikhi healers and all the other snake oil the nhs splashes our tax cash on  :(

Just think, if we cut out all the sh!t, maybe we could pay our junior doctors half as much as our tube drivers  ::)

Agreed EMD,

this is why if I bid on something on Ebay (never done it with cars) I only bid in the last 5-10 seconds or so. Means the seller has no opportunity to bid me up and then reverse it. Also means I can't get carried away and bid again!  ::)

My Stage 3 Saab 9-5 Aero ran much better on 98RON or above, and achieved about 27-28mpg mixed, versus 25-26 on regular. I wonder if it was to do with the previous owner (who had it taken to stage 3) running it on super and hence being on super when it was mapped?  :-\

I don't really know enough about such things to know if it made a difference. Once I have to put the spanners down and pick up a laptop I tend to be out of my depth!

Maybe try Tesco Super? The difference was about 6p last time I checked. Depends where you are in the country though I guess.

It is true that if you start comparing cars to the omega, on a Value For Money footing there's not much that competes!

Just capitalising on the fact that, when you have much more grave things on your mind, you'll just pay it. :(

Now where would you like your local hospital to find money to do maintenance from?

Possibly from the £5m or so the NHS has spent on art since 2010, or by closing the three NHS Homoeopathic Hospitals we have in the uk, or by not prescribing expensive antibiotics to idiots with viral infections just because they ask for them?

Perhaps if the NHS just stuck to meeting a clinical need, with treatments that we know to work, there would be a bit more money in the system for things patients actually need?  :y

Yes, Mrs 944 is not a keen driver, only passed her test at the tender age of 30 and had an at fault accident not long after passing. We've never bitten the bullet and got her her own insurance, we really should though as she still has no NCD  :-\
