Driving hard constantly is obviously not good for the engine, also driving with the revs constantly low is also not so good for the engine as I was told when in college, it is good to open the engine up to its full potential every so often.

Are they fitting genuine GM gaskets, I find that pattern parts don't last long at all even when fitted correctly.

As title I'm looking for the servo to plenum pipe for a V6, my valve has twin outlets on it, mine currently has normal pipes in place which are crushing as they can't handle the vacuum instead of the plastic one.

Thanks.

I have a real hate for thieves, went through a few years where we kept having things stolen, we had a motorbike stolen, petrol strimmer, and numerous tools and the police don't seem to be interested no matter what the value of the stolen goods is and the only way for you to get them back is track them down yourselves.

Had my driving lessons and passed my test in a mk6 diesel Fiesta, first car of my own was a 12v Corsa b.

Mine is a manual and depends on where I'm driving or how I'm feeling, I tend to drive sedately around town and built up areas but I often go down the country lanes where I open it up.

Resonation is in the line of the valve (it cant occur at a right angle due to the valve guide).

Simple physics, a spring with a mass will have a resonating frequency which may be in the engine operating range ( e.g a specific rpm).

Add a second smaller spring inside the main one and design it so that it resonates at a different frequency and when one of them resonates, the other wont and hence you overcome the issue.

Or make the springs stronger and design them so they only resonate at very high rpms beyond the engine operating range, this is not good for pushrod and rocker engines as it results in larger components being needed (stronger) which increases the valve train weight.....which is not good as it limits the upper rpm range....thats a major advantage of OHC....lighter valve train  :y

Not totaly conviced on your torque talk...its the crank that converts a linear motion into a rotational one and hence its the crank where the torque is produced.

that makes sense re the resonating and the smaller spring inside the bigger one. however one thing i've obviously missed which i should have asked...... what's the actual problem with resonating? noise? worn parts? soz should have asked really.

as for the torque talk. as far as i know, yes, the crank is where the torque is ''given'' to the drive shaft, but its what happens in the combustion chamber and the acts and forces on the pistons that sends that power...... or have i got confused with the question?  ::) ;D

If I remember correctly when the springs reach a certain speed and are resonating at quite a high frequency the valve is in a sense just floating as the spring isn't making contact with the valves which eventually leads to the sudden contact when the resonance stops, which causes the valve to crash into the cam.

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 26 September 2012, 21:00:11 »
I put everything back together after changing drivers side exhaust manifold gasket and also changed the passenger side bagpipes to plenum intake pipe, then I took the car for a nice long test drive. :y

Backbox looks terrible as it sticks out way too far, the irmscher fuel flap looks terrible and the front splitter looks out of place with those standard wheels and sideskirts.

General Car Chat / Re: Vectra vxr8?
« on: 24 September 2012, 23:02:03 »
The Vectra VXR does not have brilliant handling nor is the handling terrible, my father now owns one in estate form and it handles rather well for a fwd car with close to 280bhp, I think the car gets slated so much for its handling as people tend to think of the handling issues that the Astra VXR has.

In isolation and at slowish speeds its fine. Push it hard and it is really bad. There is no other way to describe it. Compare it to something properly sorted like a ST220 and you realise how much worse it is.

Driven hard I still say the handling isn't that poor at all, the only issue it has like most high powered front wheel drive cars is terrible torque steer, estate cars often handle slightly better due to having better weight distribution apparently, thats one of the main reasons most of Audi's perfomance models tend to be estates.

As stated 1 "0" ring seal sits into the recess on the coolant transfer pipe...its a VX part only and also wise getting the bridge dowty washers there too.

Thanks you, does anyone have the part number for these washers?

Thanks.

As per title, I'm looking for the passenger side intake pipe that connects to the plenum, the part number is 90572140 and can be seen on the pipe itself.

Thanks.
