Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Phillips 6 disc changer
« on: 06 October 2010, 22:47:32 »
had this problem, with a cartridge full of decent cd's stuck inside, it took a hacksaw, hammer and alot of swearing to get into it to get the cartridge out, by the end of it the unit was fubard.

The changer units are pretty common anyways so not expensive to replace and they are not coded so will plug and play.

a flat battery m8   ;D

seriously it could be anything, from a radio left on, boot light, interior light staying on if a door wasnt shut right.

fully charge the battery, then reconnect, jump in car when its dark, and close the doors see if the interior light goes out, or if you can see light from the boot area

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: speakers
« on: 13 October 2010, 17:11:12 »
Hate to disagree with you Dave, but there are definately 2 types of speakers fitted to the omegas (non bose) the beige ones are not faded black ones, as black fades to grey not beige  :D

and so far in my 10+ years of omega ownership I have never blown a set of standard speakers with an aftermarket h/unit.

if clarity and thumping bass is the required sound then by all means upgrade both.

For a modest improvement in sound within a budget and without removing all the door cards a decent h/unit will suffice.

BTW nice sales pitch re. speakers  ;D ;D

everyone assumes its the speakers that are crap, infact its the headunits that are weak, I have a jvc 4x40w and it sounds great with the standard speakers, I changed the speakers for sony ones and it was worse, The black coned speakers seem to have slightly better sound than the beige coned ones tho.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Engine loom connector
« on: 09 October 2010, 22:54:56 »
Is the car end of the connector the same regardless of engine size? eg. 4pot vs v6, Been offered a v6 for parts with a damaged loom connector, and I have a spare from a 4 pot I broke. ideally need it to test the engine before removal, so a bodge would suffice.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Phillips SC804 Problems
« on: 12 May 2010, 21:22:32 »
only the DC012 works with the sc804, there are 3 variations of the sc804, one with display built in, and 2 without (use mid) one of these types does not control a changer.

if its exactly the same as your elite one, then its pssible its a duffer, cheap enough to find now tho, depepnds if you are fussy about all the buttons lighting up aswell tho.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Cruise Control
« on: 06 March 2009, 13:27:19 »
cruise only works from 30mph + and if you have your foot resting on the clutch or bake pedal at all it will open the circuit for the pedal switch.

Try shorting out the connector for the clutch pedal with a paper clip to see if that makes any difference.

The garage only advised him to change th clocks, they did not fit them, and the problem only started once the clocks were changed.

I would have tried the original ones back in but Glen didnt have them with him and was short of time.

Going to try again at the weekend with his original clocks, and if they work ok with regards to the flashing lights then We can get another set off one of the guys on here.

Dave:

Nothing flashes in the rear clusters, the indicator flashes as normal with the brake pedal pressed/lights on etc. its only the lights on the dash that are affected.  :-/

Posting this problem on behalf of Glen Kew who cam up to my house today with his car,

The car is a facelift model 2.5 Cd saloon

Glen had the speedo assembly changed recently due to the fuel guage and temp guage not working, He was advided by a local garage to change the whole unit. I noticed from looking at the newly fitted clocks that they are from a minifacelift model because the faces are black not grey.

When the left inticator is switched on the rear fog and front fog symbols flash in time with the indicator arrow, also the strange thing is the stereo backlights also flash!

The hazzard switch also caused this to happen, but the right indicator works as normal.

We have checked the exterior of the car and the fogs do not flash with the indicators.

AmI right in thinking this is because the wrong type of speedo assembly has been used?

Cheers guys  ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / drivers electric window problem
« on: 28 February 2009, 20:21:40 »
Changed the window switch unit on Glens facelift omega, old unit would randomly lower window when you pulled switch up to close it.

I got a switch unit off mutantcav, tried it and now you have to repeatedly press the button to get the window to go down and up, If you hold the switch in either position the window moved half an inch then stops until you press the switch again.

the other 3 windows work fine.

is this another faulty switch unit or is the regulator iffy?

thanks

you could always pop the switch open and clean the contacts inside it, watch out for the wee springs  :y

I doubt it will fit, as the changer loom connects to a large connector in the footwell beside the central locking ecu, the zafira wont have this connector, your best bet is a single disc unit for the dash, or an aftermarket changer and headunit  ;)
