Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio reception
« on: 13 May 2011, 19:48:35 »
How can I improve the radio reception on my face lift cdx diesel. I believe there is a Ariel booster somewhere in the car, can anything be done to improve its performance?

Best option is to either replace or install a beesting style aerial where the phone aerial usually goes towards the rear of the roof.

Hello Dave, there is already an aerial at the rear of the roof, I presume its for a phone. So if I replace it with a bee sting, will it come with the same type of cable to run the radio.

If you are not using tehphone aerial, then replace with ordinary beesting, but if you are using the phone, then look for a combined GSM/FM beesting.

Would`nt run the cable back to the radio though, much easier to run it down to the aerial booster (rear shelf) and pick up the connections there.

Have a look at the VW / Audi fitment aerials as I think the screw on Hirschmann style connectors may be the same as the one you are trying to connect to, failing that, let me have  aphoto of the aerial plug you have, and I`ll find an adaptor. If you go for the amplified beesting, you should also be able to pick up a live supply from the aerial booster as well.

Thanks for your reply, a bit late getting back but I  have been away, at the mo I have other more pressing issues with fuel problems. I will have another look at this next week, if I get a chance.

I think that the powersounder is to detect Battery disconnection whereas the alarm is to detect unauthorised entry to the car One of our experts will clarify.

Ah, yes that makes sense, I remember a while back I disconnected the battery and the alarm/ power sounder :y went off.  Cheers...

Is it the alarm or the powersounder that goes off. My powersounder was giving problems but since trying to remove it without taking the scuttle off,  without success, And dropping a socket and a spanner into the void where they remain the problem has gone away hows that for a cure.

I dont know what you mean, Power sounder or alarm, are you saying there are two different units? If so what's the difference?

Freaky... Second post, for the same problem, by 2 different members on the same day!

Just read the other post. It's very similar. I have the original set CCR 2006. I have just disconnected the battery, Because I dont know where the Ariel is connected. Have to wait and see now.

I Just unscrewed the Ariel but left the base bolted to the roof and cleaned out all the crap, screwed it back on and reconnected the battery (been disconnected for over an hour) Put the code in and now it's all ok. again. But I don't like the Ariel I would much sooner have a leccy one same as my senny had, but there dont seem to be anywhere for it. Has anyone on here been able to put a leccy one on a face lift saloon?

Omega General Help / Fan belt tensioner
« on: 11 March 2011, 18:41:44 »
I have just had to replace the fan belt on my 2.2 dti cdx 2001 reg. I noticed there was a lot of movement in the tensioner, I could move the wheel up and down. Should it not be able to move at all? I think its just play in the arm, but never the less I don't think I should be able to move it. Can anyone throw some light on this matter?  cheers,, Colin.....

Omega General Help / No heat in the foot well
« on: 02 March 2011, 09:24:11 »
I have noticed that when I change the air flow to blow in to the foot wells there is very little air (hot or cold)  blowing in to the drivers side, and even less in the passenger side. Even when the air con is in auto mode. I have tried resetting, ie. pressing auto & off for 3-5 sec's, but no change. Is this normal or can something be done to get more airflow in the foot wells ?
  TIA.
