Omega General Help / Re: Coolant Level
« on: 05 April 2010, 17:39:35 »
Ploppy I would also recommend checking for leaks when the engine is at operating temperature in case it's a small hose leak that is only apparent under pressure, when coolant is hot. I had a very similar issue to yours which turned out to be a leaky rad pipe which only leaked when the engine was running.

Whereabouts in Norfolk are ye?

Ditto. This concerned me for a while especially as it smelt a bit like burning, but the oil level is still bang on.

Omega General Help / Re: clicking steering wheel?

Does it sound like the clicking is coming from the wheel area or lower down the steering column? Thinking maybe clockspring?

Omega General Help / Re: Small Water Loss ! Is it possible ?
« on: 18 March 2010, 12:23:58 »
Had a similar issue a few weeks ago with similar level of coolant loss. Try running the engine to operating temp, then leaving a tray under the engine as it may be a leak that's only apparent when the coolant is heated and under pressure. In my example it was a split rad pipe that only leaked when hot or when pressing on the pipe.

You could haggle the price down a bit but sounds like a reasonable price. Make sure you see the service history as cambelt kits are due every 40k (that's the belt, tensioners and water pump), so at 82k the next will be due assuming the first change was done on time and a second hasn't been fitted.

If there is no evidence of an 80k change then take £300 off the price to budget the cambelt kit.

Also how much MoT has it got?

Omega General Help / Door membrane
« on: 16 March 2010, 19:48:12 »
How much roughly is a door membrane? (Driver's door). I went to replace the lock at the weekend and found the membrane has been tampered with before and superglued to the door  >:( so simply peeling it off is a no-go. I should've got the hint to leave the door alone when I found the door pull handle was glued on as well.

Pretty sure the plug usually goes on the passenger side though :-?

Being in Slovakia I guess that is his passenger side (left hand drive).

I'm having it changed on Wednesday along with the oils/filters & MoT. No problems tonight though.

Omega General Help / Torque converter not locking
« on: 15 February 2010, 13:22:42 »
A couple of times today (i.e going to work and at lunchtime) when driving along the A47 the torque converter didn't lock at 50mph therefore when on cruise control the revs were rising on inclines destroying my mpg. Is this a typical ATF symptom or something else? It only happens if the engine isn't up to operating temp, once up to temp the tc is fine.

Would advise also checking the breathers aren't blocked. Just had mine cleaned today and on my commute route has gone up from 28-32mpg - 19mpg on hilly country lanes (yes we have some hills in Norfolk!) and near 40 on dual-carriageway @ 65 on cruise.
