ohh dear... still at least they did it in a funny way...

For me personally need to keep some perspective, if I am willing to laugh at them destroying other makes and models of cars, then I got to be prepared to laugh when they destroy one I love...

And lets face it, at least this died a death that has alot of people seeing it.. Not like some idiot ripping it apart of trashing it..

General Car Chat / Re: BRAKE LIGHT WARNING
« on: 21 February 2010, 19:03:51 »
I've had the same warning on for the last month..
Numerous checks have found nothing as all lights (including rear window light) are working.

Though I have noticed that the brake lights in the rear dont seem to light up significantly over the standard lights being on...

Perhaps an issue of the light is slowly expiring? Had a car before and it warned of this before bulbs finally blew...

I was just recently in France on a driving holiday, if you want to take the toll roads be prepared for the price. We drove from Paris to the German border (heading for Frankfurt) and in the 2 hours we were in France we paid over 26 euro in tolls.
It was about the same coming in from Switzerland the week before. This was more than fuel cost us for that part of the journey!!
Couldn't believe it personally..
Also try to avoid buying fuel in France if you can, the prices are absolutely extortionate!!

haha I bet the Mercedes team isn't running the rear diffuser this year, everyone else will, and suddenly it will be illegal.. at midpoint in season of course, when Shoemaker can have a huge lead!!!  ;D  >:(

ahh though Webber outperformed Vettel in a few races this year, and consistently out-qualifies him..

I hope Schumacher doesn't win a race, would be nice to see him battle in mid pack and have some moves made on him that he carried out over the years... ahhh dreams...

Im going for the Aussie, Mark Webber... Even though he has a natural talent of taking himself out on the first corner... If he can get past that he can be a safe bet :)

Red Bulls cars also look the part this year I think....

If I had to choose between Lewis and Jenson though, Id choose Jenson, just because I still see him as a bit of an underdog, being in Formula one for so long with the pressure of being the next big thing...

What a deal!!! :D, you're getting a custom paint job there, and exceptional interior. Not the new battery positioning in front of the pedals, I hear they are doing that in F1 this year for distribution of weight ;)

Love the description of the car especially "this car is going to be sold to the highest bidder"
Im not a rocket scientist, but isnt that the point of ebay?? :-?

There has been a small amount of Mayo under the oil cap.. but Ive also had a small oil leak, so thought that perhaps in all this cold weather that moisture was getting in where they proposed a leak in gasket..

Dam I wish I still had the tools and garage to check this stuff myself..
Guess thats a price you pay when moving to the other side of the world :(

I'm going to be pretty p*$$#d if it is wrongly diagnosed, as I have already paid out the 200 euro for the head gasket replacing a good news this afternoon..  :-[

is there a way I could have easily found out that it was just the oil cooler that had failed??
*just so I can go kick myself for wasting money*

I would hope they know alot about Omega's. they were the cities opel dealer!!!  :-? :-? :-? :-/
It might sound wrong cause its a bit lost in translation.. I can't speak slovak and they don't speak much english, so some of it is just guesswork from both sides using dictionaries to translate..

General Car Chat / A striaghtfoward service.... not...
« on: 12 February 2010, 16:48:22 »
So I bought my Omega 3 weeks ago.. (haven't had a chance to upload photos with all the snowing, hoping tomorrow to wash and take some nice shots)...
Anyway Last week I took it to the Opel dealer for a service, and after an hour they came back to me with a list of what needs to be fixed, consisting of:

- head gasket
- steering arms replacing
- front ball joints both sides replaced.

To which they wanted to charge 500 euro for the repairs. So I booked the car in for today and when I dropped it in, asked that they only do the head gasket and try to fix the oil leak i'd found, if it could be done for 200 euro or less (im quite short on money at the moment)

Went to pick the omega up this evening and was told that in the process of replacing the gasket they found the oil and water mixing and so I now also need to get repaired/replaced
- the oil cooler
- Sump
- and a couple of seals replaced

Which is going to cost me a staggering 600 euro. on top of the 300 euro that the steering repairs are going to cost.

I asked the mechanic how long he thinks the engine would last before I really need to get around to it, to which he replied I should have 2 months easy, and anything up to 5000km but not long trips..

Now usually I would have done some of these repairs myself, but Im living in Slovakia without much tools and only parking on the street..
Have been thinking about it all evening and wondering, the car yard gave me as part of the contract for the car that they guarentee the engine for 1 year or 12 000km.. Which means I might go down there and try to get them to pay for these repairs, its cheaper than them getting the whole engine replaced when it does eventually fail...

does anyone like my odds?? :D

Last car I bought was a Opel Calibra, it looked good, no rust clean interior, nice engine that was running quite smooth. only cost 1400 euro, which was all my savings for two years... Saw the paperwork and all looked good..
At the time I didnt have the money to register it straight away, so had to wait, this meant I had to go through police checks.. then one day I finally got to it, (after spending 600 euro on new wheels and rims for registration).. and when I returned to pick up the car, who is there but the police. Turns out the car had a dodgy vin number placed over the top of the old one, but it was only by cutting out the carpet that you could check.. Police took the car and three months later after checks I got it back.. Car is now sitting outside as it is unregisterable. Guy who sold it to me refuses to give money back, despite the law here in slovakia stating he has too..  Claims he could give it back, but doesnt want to.. I now have a lawyer on the case, but it could take years to retrive the money.. :(.

Overall at the moment ive lost nearly 2000 euro on it..
But it seems every dark cloud does have a silver lining, as I have now bought a Omega and it is by far a better car, larger engine and rear wheel drive!! much more fun...

Guess for me it just comes down to that you can try to protect yourself, but people really do know how to shift something and sometimes people are not as trusting as we wish they all are... ;(

Sorry to hear about your friend Hotel21, I can understand how much a small amount of money hurts to lose. Such a terrible waste for it to affect a person that drastically.. :(

General Car Chat / Re: Drivers side light washer
« on: 28 January 2010, 21:11:48 »
I havent actually checked the lights since I bought it.. But I thought for HID's you would need to install them aftermarket? :D.. and im not sure about the "light washing" laws here in Slovakia...

to me it still seems a bit stupid still to have a washer for lights, surely under that logic the fog lights should have lights and washers fitted too, for the just in case situation so i'm more safe in fog.. probably should put on our high visibility vests when we drive as well then :P

Thanks Welung666,

I shall do that in the morning then.. Was considering just taking the other one off and disconnecting the system anyway.  As I cant say I have ever been driving along a road and thought to myself
"Wouldnt it be great if I could wash my lights right now".. seems a little pointless to me... :D

Thanks for the help
