Omega General Help / Re: Power steering leak
« on: 28 January 2018, 17:09:42 »
Come on guys. I need some help. Having had a good poke round the pump looks clean. However the hose that goes out past the radiator  and then across the front seems a bit corroded and most of the fluid is on the flexible bit of the hose that sits on the chassis leg. Do these pipes fail. I plan to refill and watch for a leak while going from lock to lock. I see it is crimped. How are these replaced. Any more suggestions would be welcome.

Omega General Help / Power steering leak
« on: 28 January 2018, 11:12:29 »
Having now addressed the failed oil cooler(a brilliant guide many thanks) I turn to the ps leak. I topped it up and it was ok for a day then it emptied completely over the subframe. The hose with the jubilee on seems fine clean and dry but down round the pump it's soaking. Any tips on where to start. Could it be a hose or will it be the pump itself. Are there any common failures. What do they cost. Pointers please.  Thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / V6 crank sensor
« on: 27 December 2017, 17:42:46 »
Can someone clarify for me. The crank sensor on the v6. What is the bolt size holding it in the block. In the guide it says t8(male)but it appears to be a female when I looked earlier. As I will need to buy a socket can someone share their wisdom. Thanks.

Omega General Help / Re: Oil cooler pipes removal

I haven't used a crows foot before. To be absolutely clear do I need a socket or a spanner. It looks tight on space up there.

Omega General Help / Oil cooler pipes removal
« on: 03 December 2017, 17:26:55 »
Hi folks. Started the oil cooler replacement today as per the guide. Couple of questions.
I have to remove the oil filter housing. Can I reuse the seal between it and the block. And I can't lay my hands on a crows foot socket. Is it possible to use a spanner or will I have to order a socket to get the pipes off.
With regards to the flushing. The water seems to flow slowly through and out of the drain plug and seems clear. Is ghisua good sign or is all the shit stuck inside.
Thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / Oil leak on v6 and sludge in header
« on: 18 November 2017, 16:34:59 »
Hi folks. I had a check engine oil warning and when I did found evidence of oil around front right side on subframe and the undertray when looking from front. I can't see any oil leaks as such. On closer inspection I noticed the  header tank has the dredded sludge in it. So I will flush out the system and replace the cooler as per the guide but I need your thoughts on the oil around the front. Could they be related or what else should I check.
Also I can here a slight noise from the power steering pump as the pulley rotates. The fluid level did run low and I topped up. Is this a sign of future failure. All thoughts very greatfully received.

Omega General Help / V6 air con stopped working again
« on: 31 October 2016, 22:01:46 »
3 years ago I had to replace the air con pipe that runs along the chassis leg due to a leak right pig of a job. Then a few weeks ago had no cool air again. Checked the compressor was running and that it stopped when Eco selected. Went for regass and all seemed well. Cool air and no leaks detected. However stopped again today so there must be a slow leak. Guess I will need to have it checked with a dye. Can anyone recommend someone in the blackpool Preston area. Many thanks.

« on: 18 March 2016, 11:46:14 »

General Car Chat / Omega replacement
« on: 09 February 2016, 12:57:59 »
Well guys I have owned the Omega now for 6 years now and it is still going strong. It has had all the usual problems but with the help of this forum they have been resolved. Without doubt this forum is the best I have used. Quality info from a great community and well presented. I bought the car because it was cheap and luxurious and the drive is very good. The only real fault is the economy. So to the difficult question which can't be put off much longer. Where next? They aren't getting any younger and the prices are rock bottom. I want something with luxury that is cheap, not so old and with good forum back up. I have thought of an Elite Insignia. What do forum members plan to move on to? Your thoughts are welcomed

Omega General Help / Re: Camber Adjustment
« on: 12 August 2015, 22:06:26 »
Thank you to all for feedback which I followed. In order to close the thread and to help others in the future let me add.
I have now got a well set up geometry. Just completed 1100 miles in a week and no tyre wear to speak of.
The adjustment described above is simple but does ideally need a start point. For what it is worth. The adjustment is very limited. Pull out the hub from the top to give the maximum camber angle on both sides. Using the spirit level as described I found that the top of the rim was approx 11 mm away from vertical on both sides on 18 inch rims. When checked on the alignment machine it was within tolerance and the toe was minimal adjustment. Thanks again you guys. As I said I did 1100 miles keeping up with modern machines all be it at the expense of mpg!

I appreciate the bluntness. I came to the same conclusion myself.
Does anyone have the bolt size to hand for the two bolts. Also when adjusting the wheel what would you recommend in order to get it within the parish. I read placing a socket between the wheel and shocker and somewhere else set the wheel to be about 10mm in board from vertical. Advice please.

Omega General Help / Camber Adjustment
« on: 30 July 2015, 20:03:49 »
Hi folks. Please help. I know there is loads of history on this but I need some simple advice urgently.
Had new wishbones on today and afterwards went to get it set up. All was fine apart from the camber which is visibly way out. The tracking guys say they can't adjust and so did the dealer who fitted the wishbones. They claim the wishbones have no effect on camber setting and say it must have been out before. I have had no tyre wear problems to date.
I have read on here that the camber is adjustable but not clear on how it is done. Please help as I have a long trip coming up and fear my tyres will be worn out.

Thanks guys. There are no photos in the guide so if you could post some that would be great. In particular some have struggled with the ball joint. Many thanks.
