Omega Gallery / Re: Worn armrest refreshed
« on: 10 May 2013, 14:52:39 »
Can you tell me something?
I am going to follow suite and refresh some of my trim...
I see in the first pic, you have some damage to the original soft coating, Did you rub this down first? Or maybe remove it with something???

Hi,

Can anyone suggest how to remove the soft rubberised coating on the trim?
Mine is quite scratched up so I want to refresh it....

Trim might be an issue as will the overall condition of the body.
Remember it was a police car....
Ex TV cars were looked after better than the Met car also.
As Ex Taxi Al says, a good price for a nice enough car but do give her a good service including the cam belt and water pump!!!
Good luck! :-y

Well, I have to say that yesterday did not go well!
Apart from sweating my pants off in the sunshine and it being so bright, I couldn't see what I was doing, I spent 3hrs trying to get 1 heat shield bolt off!!! FFS!!!
It was on the pass side the third one back...
Well I got that bugger tonight and no-one told me there was another on the head side of the manifold...
Anyway, I'm short for time so I'm done for today... Wish I had a garage!
I'm going to leave it 'til the weekend now...
On the plus side, some parts came today...
Water pump,
Aux belt,
Front pad sensors,
Irmy looky like grill and some paint for my trim...
On the down side, I have a leak in my gearbox output shaft!!! Bugger!!!

It really would look good sitting on an Omega stand at a show or at home at Rockingham... All it needs is a V8! and good brakes... And tuned suspension... :-)

The suspension is easy enough to fix. Powerflex polyurethane bushings up front, SuperPro at the rear, Intrax or like lowering springs, Koni or Bilstein struts and shocks, and the wheels and tires of your choice. The brakes? Monaro calipers and brake hoses will fit without modifications. We use '94 Pontiac GTO components which are the same as the Monaro's. Not the rotors though. Won't fit.

That's some great info, thanks Elvin!
I might go that way with my car.... If I can get the rest sorted!!! :-/

As far as the coolant goes, the car is an ex TV so I trust they have serviced it well.
I have also kept on top of it apart from when the pump let go and I was just topping it up....
Where is the "B-bolt"?
Just finished another job and come in out of the sun for a while...
Next job is the manifolds!!!
As far as a lift goes, I wish it was! That would at least mean it would be inside!!!

b-bolt attaches the metal hose that goes to the thermostat very close to icv..  taking out is easy , putting back together is the problem.. :-\
I thought that was it! Thanks! :-y

Just had a look and it does look very possible to go out through the bottom...
I'm changing it because it is deffinately leaking and also fitting the 3.2 manifolds.
I thought it was the down pipe because I have had problems with them fitting but on removal for the ??? Time, there is no soot Mark to indicate a leak... Plus I can feel it if I start the car from cold and stick my hand down th side of the head by No6 port.
Also did the tube trick....
I'll let you know how it goes.... Fingers crossed!!!

When you say give up, what do you mean?
ATM, I'm not using it so I have time to work on it... Just don't want to... :-/
I have read plenty that the HG almost never go???
Anyway, I know this will open a can of you know what but...
Will this do for the HG'S? Plus a few seals...

use the sheet metal gasket ..  and if you are planning to keep the car for long period, doing both at a time with heads out is easier..
Oh boy! Not what I want to do!!!

Oh bugger! I do have studs and nuts but, is it hard to get to the coolant pipe fixings?
Also on the list is the vent box so I can do that at the same time....
From the look of it, I thought the passenger side would be the easy side???
