Nice looking motor. Worth bearing in mind!

Interesting. What're the stats on your CDX?

Saw this car http://www.autoexposure.co.uk/vehicle.cfm?Id=AETV19545764

In case anyone else is thinking of looking here's my assessment.

1) bad rust on rear offside wheel arches plus osme other scuffs and odd rust patches.
2) Searching on tick over - air flow meter?
3) Near side front tyre worn way more than off-side although one may have been replaced.
4) Pulls to left on braking although maybe fluid just need replacing.
5) After a run when I pulled up it stalled and didn't want to restart.
6) Bit milky under oil cap and when I got back from 5 minute run it actually had water droplet on the oil cap.
7) Coolant pretty much boiled dry.
8) Strong smell of oil and smoke rising from engine after 5 minute drive - rocker covers need replacing?

He's asking £1500. Reckon he'll be lucky to get £500. Engine pulls OK though and gearbox was good.

Very good.

I had a Haynes manual for my mk 1 Cavalier. Excellent.
I had a Haynes manual for my mk 2 Cavalier. Worthwhile purchase.
I had a Haynes manual for my mk2 Astra. Bit hazy on some details.
I've got a Haynes manual for my Omega B. Might as well use the sales brochure!

This from an optimist!

Be a real pity to break her. Still, that's life.

No, not new new car. New car to me = 10 years old!

That's pretty much what I figured. Tyres are worth more than the car.

Guess my cousin gets the tyres etc and then it'll be flea-bay or possibly trade.

It was indeed 1 of the first in this country. Moreover, I've seen migs 6 or 7 years younger with worse bodywork. Amazing considering it has never been garaged (by me anyway.)

Thanks for that. Now, just got to find a low mileage 3l manual!

Speaking in a hypothetical scenario. How much could I expect to get for my CD?

L plate (1994)
105k miles (geniune!)
2.5 CD
Only rust is a blemish at the bottom corner of a few of the doors.
1 rear light lens has a crack with epoxy on it to keep the rain out.
Exhuast pretty new, 2 new tires on the back, did the discs and pads last December... or was it November? 6 months ago anyway. Upholstery good although leather around the gear knob is a little scuffed.

Ideas?

Looking for a new car and wondering whether to trade in or give someone here first dibs when I'm ready to see the old girl go. Sad really, I've changed the oil every 4k miles and looked after her.

Yeah, gave him a ring and said he might be asking a little. He seems sure he can shift it so I said good luck and walked away.

Just seen a 3l MV6 in autotrader. mint, apparently with 130k on the clock.

Asking £2.2k. Sounds rather a lot, doesn't it?

Thanks for the answers everyone.

I reckon on balance it'll have to be... the 3l MV6!

Cheers!

Incidentally, if I do find the right car I'll be looking to shift a 2.5 unit with only 105k ont he clock and I've changed the oil every 4k miles so it still runs pretty smooth.

I'm thinking of changing my current saloon for an estate as I'm planning on another child. While I'm about it I though I might upgrade from a 2.5 unit to a 3.0l and go for an MV6. However, looking at the Parker's figures it seems the 2.5 is just as quick getting to 60 and has better fuel economy. So where's the advantage of a 3 litre?

Just what exactly is the difference between a 2.5 and 3.0 performance-wise?
