Standard practice for LV. In fact when I sent ours in, they noticed that I had made a mistake on my wife's pass date and got a refund on my premium. Other insurers have asked for NCB, DL etc.

It is a reasonable request though and you can always scan and email them the required documents.

Pericarditis is serious stuff and potentially lethal.  It's one of those heart attack types for which chest compressions have little effect unless you drain the fluid from the sack first.  All of which is not easy.  Thus it is important you keep on top of your treatment James.

Get well soon and look after yourself.  A common cause is thought to be an infection (viral, fungal or bacterial) although this can be difficult to find.  Thus it might be useful to look at infection vectors in your daily routine, eg possible fungi in the house/car, bacteria in the fridge, etc, etc.

No
No, you are thinking of something else
Less likely especially in recurrent disease, even if the initial trigger may have been viral
Pretty unhelpful, in that order.

Agreed,
mea culpa,
if you say so
pretty unnecessary comment, oh and in that order too ;)

I meant unhelpful to look for infective agents, not your post per se!

You say about fluid being drained... are you confusing plain old pericarditis, (just inflammation) with a pericardial effusion (unwanted fluid?)

Correct!

General Car Chat / Re: Signum remap.
« on: 18 June 2015, 18:47:19 »
What would you like to know?

Bluefin is probably the most convenient. You get a handset that enables you to rewrite the map/return to stock as required. Plus you may be able to sell the unit on when you are finished with this car. Plus they have a 7 day refund policy if you are not satisfied.

The others sound like a single shot map, which may be the better choice if they are cheaper/you plan to keep the car for a prolonged period/are sure you will be happy with the end product..

Dreamscience do not cater for Vx except the VXR. But their reputation and service is very good. They are predominantly Ford tuners.

With most FWD turbo cars, remaps usually cause issues with the clutch slipping. Especially if it has been previously abused. Drive shafts can go, Ford are particularly notorious for this.

Insurance will go up and most mainstream insurers will refuse to cover the remap. Use someone like Chris Knott or Sky to get better prices.

Edit: Pre and post dyno results are usually a great way for tuner to get more money from you. Results are usually operator dependent, highly variable and of very little use other than bragging rights.

Yes its a very good engine, of course diesels are of zero use to anyone who is doing short miles. :y

Also be aware three was a 120bhp version of the 1.4T some time ago which is considerably more lazy.

Only currently available on the GTC coupe.

Thought these where a straight 6 twin turbo diesel  :-\

Sorry yes, still in Omega land when I typed that.

Why not have a shot in the Diseasle?  Just to make a comparison..... if not, hairy-muff - Your money, your choice.... but don't say one half of an apple tastes beter than the other if you haven't had a bite.

Having owned the 335d and sold it due to getting fed up of the way it drove, I dont think even the bi-turbo Astra diesel would make any difference to my general dislike of diesel and the way it drives.

Initially the 335d was great fun. It has this steam roller effect where you just keep accelerating. Great on the test drive and on a motorway, but trying to have fun driving it on a twisty B road was pretty disappointing. Eventually sold it as I got fed up.

By the way, the diseasal is about 3k more for a similar spec. And with 8-10k pa, it does not make sense. Plus add in costs of blocked dpf's and other issues, no thank you.

A very good friend of mine just chopped his 1.4T Astra for the 2.0 Devil Fueled one.  That small Turbo engine needs to be driven hard to get anything out of it.  The Astra J is a rather bloated bit of kit.

Sorry, did not feel anything like that. Quite the opposite. Drove it expecting to hate it and ended up quite enjoying it. Got my gear change wrong once, third gear at walking pace and expected it to stall. It just pulled off quite happily. The Ford ecoboost 140bhp we drove was similarly good. Both drove quite well, but for some reason I liked the Vx overall.

I would rather wax my nether regions than drive a diesel.

I'm with you on that!

But, 200Nm V's 350Nm and an extra 20odd horses makes for a massive difference in *usable* power.

I stand by my argument..... 140BHP and 200Nm is very low for a petrol powered car of that weight.... and it shows.

I suspect you are looking at numbers. I am purely going with what I experienced. Plus no matter what the numbers, the way a diesel drives is truly awful. At least for me, even a BMW V6 335d, bloody awful. Hence the OP asking for issues with this engine rather than the drive.

Bulletproof if serviced well, its a proven engine design which the Saab boys have added a Turbo to, the wife has one in her car its quite nippy yet good on fuel.

Does that translate to half the manufacturer recommended 12m/20k schedule?

Felt quite quick and despite an extended test drive with a full rev range exploration, the fuel gauge did not move. Unlike the Omega. :y

Choose a solid colour and that car costs £12995, which seems pretty competitive when compared to some of the outrageous prices charged by VW. You can also get the 1.6 NA for £1k less, but it felt pretty lifeless.

Could you not just get a non cumulative code for the other jobs? So your first/main job would be cumulative, allowing you to have the tax free allowance, the other ones wouldnt.

A friend of mines has as 1.4t Astra and the engine went at 20 k miles, massive oil consumption which culminated in total failure, to Vauxhalls credit they fitted brand new lump foc which not bad as warranty had expired, just makes me wonder how common an issue is it that they bent over so easily.

Or maybe its the other way round? Loads of BMW engines were self destructing after ingesting swirl flaps, yet BMW did not acknowledge this. Possibly due to the size of the payout, wheres if it is a one off, then it would be an easier pill to swallow.

Buy the one with xenons... Standard lights are woeful :-\ Otherwise not a bad car all told :y

Always the case once you have experienced xenon headlamps. Tbh, I was surprised by the space and ride quality. The Focus is supposed to be the class leader, yet other than steering feel, the Vx was better.
