Omega General Help / coolant loss
« on: 04 September 2008, 21:09:27 »
Guys carrying on from my last post concerning my 2.2i omega I am still loosing coolant and can find no leak so got to assume head gasket and looosing through exhaust, can these be done in a day ie remove and replace, hope not to have to skim as not over heating, and do I need any special tools.

I might be wrong but surely a sticky sensor would not actually cause coolant loss, if it is loosing coolant and the level is dropping then the sensor is doing it's job and working correctly

i get 35 in city and 44 in motorway

it s all depend on what kind of the driver you are

you dont have to drive slow for low MPG

good tyer-know about ur car-know ur break- CLEAN batterfly valve ...

and the bigest key to low MPG is full synth oil from mobile1 which cost

£46 in birmingham

((( all i said is my experience im nt warranty anything))

I would think if it was auto it should get around 26mpg around town, and should achieve around 35-38 on a run, I get similar with a 2.2 petrol auto.

Hi car has done 128000 miles but has been very well looked after, regular oil changes at appro every 6000 miles genuine vauxhall anti-freeze changed every 2 years, car runs fine apart from this initial missfire for approx 10-15 seconds when first started from cold and have noticed asmall drop in coolant level but can find no leaks what so ever.

thanx mark will look into it further, got to admit car has done a few miles now, so would not be surprised if it was start of head gasket.  :y

Omega General Help / Head Gasket
« on: 29 August 2008, 22:50:58 »
Hi guys, I think I may have the early signs of head gasket failure, in as much as I am loosing coolant, no apparent leaks any were, no leaks from matrix in vehicle no water in oil, to sum it up can not find a leak any were, so thinking maybe loosing it across water jacket and out through exhaust, but again no steam, so my question is if it is head gasket what are they like to do on a 2.2i petrol, do I need any special tools etc.

that looks like it can be changed in situ, ie just drop the sumps and remove from side  of valve block, but not completly sure.

agree I would say 90% chance it is the alternator, seen this type of problem a few times.
