I rate OE vs pattern on a scale of how much of a ball ache that part is to fit

Good call, that's the way I look at it......along with a bit of if it fails how much S###e will I be in.  ;D

Omega General Help / Re: Strange non starting
« on: 29 December 2016, 16:39:34 »
The ECU isn't the problem, as it's working off the coolant temp and air temp sensors(and maybe a time delay). It's operator error, turning it off before the cold start program has finished. That doesn't always lead to a flooded engine, only when it doesn't catch instantly.

I used to see this problem all the time; starting the car, moving it, and turning it off, all within a few seconds. Doing that a couple of times in a row is asking for trouble. Some engines are a complete PITA to restart, more cylinders make it worse like V8 Jags. The simplest solution is to let the engine run a little longer before switching off.

Worse thing I have known for this is the Mazda RX8. They do this very easily and a real bitch to sort out. EFI...... the way forward, never have to worry about cold starts and choke again, fuelling spot on for every occasion....Hmmm.

Bought one £13.47 plus vat last year, aren't they cheap these days?

Is that a pattern HBV?  ???

Why, do they react badly to genuine GM water?

Nick you are as sarcastic as me......which is why I often don't say much!!   :-X

Beware, do some research as "Smart" cars have a whole host of their own problems. One of the major ones is that at all of around 50k is to gum up the rings and burn oil ( as in all of it very quickly!!) and also to burn out number three pot exhaust valve, job and a half to fix if it has not burnt all the oil and over heated the motor, if so one dead engine!!   :-X

Think yourself lucky.....we don't have any street lights here any never have. Does get rather dark!! LED torches are a boon and a must have.

I do have PIR lights on the drive though, they help a lot.

Not only do I not think they are "80w" but also not 1258 lumens each! Still, decent COB or Cree LED's (not the cheapo crap) will be far better than an old fashion hot bit of wire. Trouble is people buy the cheap LED's thinking they will be good and they really are not. Modern decent LED bulbs will out perform incandescent bulbs every time but they are not cheap!

Not all metals are made equal! Some are better at certain jobs than others. Metals are made from various ingredients (ie an alloy) and not all manufacturers take the time and effort to get it right for the application it is put in too, that and poor quality control. Hence all sorts of things fail when they really shouldn't. Metals also age and that can make the metal move, that's why decent engine builders/tuners prefer a used block as a base....its "settled".

Still its an easy fix....two new discs.

As stated more than likely to be knackered or S### discs. If it bothers you that much run it down your local friendly MOT station and put it on the rollers, it'll soon tell you if the disc/discs are the cause as the readings will fluctuate accordingly (front or back). If they don't then start looking somewhere else. Tyres would be my next point of call as they often go out of round on a standing car.

Yellow plugs are normally for SRS (airbags) stuff. Common adopted colour so you know not to mess with it whilst system live!

I used the wet "n" dry paper method then lacquered them with an aerosol lacquer and they stayed bright and shiny for a good few years until I sold the car. Makes such a difference to the look of the front end!! Need to do them on this one now as they are going yellow as well. Won't take them out just do them in situ and stick a bit of paper around the lamps when lacquering.

Put Beru in my 2.5Td when I had it. Original equipment in many cars and reasonably priced.

Lack of fuel (lubricant and coolant for the pump) is usually the swiftest killer. Not changing the fuel filter regularly seems to be another cause. Main issue seems to be the electrics (which is on the pump and the fuel cools) fails but these can now be replaced with the pump in situ and there are many sites on the web that will tell you how to do this.... and a price for the fix. No lift pump and bleeding is a pig (which is why people kill the pump by running it dry) but one you have done it a couple of times not to much of an issue really. I use a £5 suction pump I bought from an autojumble (also does the diff oil nicely). My main issue when I bought mine was finding one without leather cos I hate the stuff for seating, indoors or in the car, to cold or sticky for me!! Looks nice though!

AS DBG said you need to be able to handle a spanner on any Omega to make it viable.

Hi, I am new to the forum and I was hoping the people might be king enough to answer some omega questions for me as I am considering get one.
What mpg could I expect to get from a 2.2 Dti: stop start rush hour traffic, steady 55 open road, steady 40 (10 mins), stop in traffic (4 mins), repeated for 1 hour.

Probably around 40mpg? How much stop start before the 55mph open road runs?

Quote
How noisy is the Dti engine compared to Renault 1.9 Dci engine.

DTi is fairly tractor like, I'd say there is little difference. Assume talking of Laguna here?

Quote
Does the drivers seat have the same adjustments as the Vectra C, particularly the on that changes the angle of the seat base.

Yes all seat bases can have change in angle, however Elite spec seats have more degree of change than standard seats.

What is the bodywork underneath like for rust.

Given newest examples are 2003? Can be hit and miss, but most will be rusting well now. Sills tend to go first, rather than arches.

Quote
What are they like for reliability and to repair, suspension, engine, electrics.

Fuel pump generally writes the 2.2 DTi off, but other than that generally reliable. Suffer from all Omega issues, budget for new wishbones, drop links, and shocks though as most will have decent miles on them.

Above just about spot on although the pump issues can normally be sorted cheaper and by better ways than changing the pump.....usually! Love my old Elite (non leather) as it just wafts me along nicely without drinking gallons of go juice.
