Go genuine. They can be a focker challenge to replace and you dont want to have to do it twice  :y

Low pressure would stop air-con coming on if gas was low.

Sounds like low gas isn't the problem as the compressor making a noise meaning the compessor clutch engaging.  Could be the magnetic clutch on the compressor slipping, it usually a screetching noise though, otherwise its the compressor as you say your getting no cold air at all.  Any good air con specialist can change the clutch and pulley or check it out for you.

Thanks mate - that makes sense - it actually sounded like a clutch slipping when I went to look at it. Do you happen to know any aircon specialists in the Glasow / Central Scotland area?

Not that I have any background experience, but i currently face the same thing. As a strike of good luck (or not) the drivebelt snapped, so I got a golden oppertunity to investigate the matter. I discovered that the outer plate on the pulley was touching the pulley at a certain point.. Didn't know what to about it, but carefully knocked it with the hammer on the thrust side, and applied plenty of engineoil between the plate and the pulley. That seemed to solve the noise for NOW, but since i really don't know what I'm doing, I don't know whats gonna happen tomorrow!  ;) The pulley certainly rolled alot easier....

Fair point. Sometimes it's easy to overlook the obvious things... like a quirt of oil. I'll give it a try    :y

Now noticed that engine is running hot too. Car has run at no more than 80 degrees for the past 18 months - today fluctuating wildly between 85 and 95 degrees. Could this be related to the aircon problem above??  :-/

... or does this meega know that I'm getting another meega on Friday???   ::) ::)

Noticed a strange whining noise from engine compartment on my 2.6 V6 today - seems to be coming from the aircon compressor. Also notice that the aircon is not chilling anymore. All connections to compressor and all aircon lines and hoses seem OK and no sign of leaks. Is it possible for these systems to run dry? Is this easy to reolve with jsut a recharge? If so, does it have to be done at a stealers or can I take it to a so called "specialist"?

Any help would be greatly appreciated  :y

Autovaux are in East Kilbride (Kelvin Industrial Estate and can be relied on to do a good job at a fair price. If you want to buy the parts and do it yourself try the VX parts department at Arnold Clarks just off pollockshaws road. If you tell them you want trade price they will usually turn a blind eye to the fact you dont have a trade club card. Alternatively wait for one of the trade club card holders to respond to you - there are quite a few around your area.  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Noise from rear of car

Have a good look at the rear springs. They have a tendency to break close to the ends of the coil and are sometimes not easy to spot without the car raised on stands. I had a similar problem on my meega last year and this was missed at the MOT  >:(

The vents are connected to rods which are driven by servo's. The rods have a habit of popping off the connections at the servo end. Get down into the footwell and take off the kickboard under the dash. Have a good look up inside the cntre console and operate to vents to see which ones aren't moving correctly.

There is a "How to.." somewhere on here - worth a look

Omega General Help / Re: Glovebox is broke

Hi Mate,

Mine is the same. Is yours a facelift with a lever/handle that pulls down to open?

If so, use a small screwdriver to remove the hinge pins which hold the handle and lock in place. Once the pins are out the lock and handle can be removed as one unit. Stick your finger in the hole where the lock came out and you will feel a little square button that you can push down to open the glove box - be careful cos it usually opens sharpish trapping said finger still in the hole!

Good luck!

Dave

Omega General Help / Engine falters at 4000 rpm
« on: 26 March 2008, 15:44:45 »
Strange one this...

My 2.5 V6 has been sitting in the driveway for a few weeks with hardly any use. I took it for a spin today and discovered I can't accelarate past 4000 revs - bit of a problem when trying to overtake! When I get to 4000 rpm the engine seems to jerk violently and the EMS light flashes. It's worse if in sport mode.

I thought it may have been a fuel pick up problem as the tank was quite low but Ive ran a paper clip test and get the following results:-

019 - Incorrect RPM Signal

059 - Intake Manifold Valve 1 Voltage Low

I suspect the 059 may be an old reading from when I changed the head gaskets and forgot to connect the rear multiram connector - but maybe not?

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Dave

Omega General Help / Re: Mud flaps
« on: 03 February 2008, 21:08:38 »
Word of warning... I have a set of Vx moulded mudflaps on my 2.6 and they a pain in the ar*e. Unless you are on a perfectly flat surface - e.g. motorway / dual carriageway etc. they will continually ground when you go over a bump. It doesnt do any damage (other than scrape another few mils of the bottom of the mudflap) but it is quite loud and can be very disconcerting... particularly for passengers.

If your going to bin your meega for the sake of a green O ring PM me first.  :D

  ;D ;D ;D

o-ring in the bin - not the meega... it's up for sale!

By the way... I found where the green O-ring actually came from - The throttle valve potentiometer where it fits to the throttle housing. B1oody thing has been niggling at me all day so I went out  tonight and started to take the plenum to bits again - result!  :y

Thanks Guys!

Thanks again Marks DTM, I haven't touched the aircon so it was probably in amongst the slush around the cam covers some where.

I'll put it away in the box marked "just in case" - if the meegas still OK in a couple of weeks I'll bin it.

Cheers

Dave
