Interesting, what is the story with new cars which have BI-Xenon headlights, I'm guessing the HID is always charged ready for use? Or am I completely wrong  ::)

Omega General Help / Cam position when removing head?
« on: 26 March 2009, 11:32:15 »
Looking for some technical info from anyone who has removed one of the Omega Heads before.

Anyway I've got a water leak coming from the side of the block on my drivers side head, I've added a dye to my coolant to find the leak and its definitely coming from the HG.

Anyway I have all the bits I need to remove it and I've got my paynes manual for instructions. I know that the exhaust cam has to be removed before I can access all the head bolts.

The Haynes manual says the engine should be 60o BTDC so that none of the valves are being pressed and the cam bearings (?) are not gonna be put under strain when unscrewing the bolts keeping them in position.

I also found out that I need to remove all four cam sprockets to remove the rear timing belt cover.

So my questions,  how do you make sure you cams don’t move when you remove the sprockets and where is 60o BTDC in relation to TDC?

Any help would be great, thanks.

Omega General Help / Re: rubber coated inside door handles

Unsure what inside handle you have the problem with, is it the door handle attached to the door card or the chrome unlock handle you use to unlock and open the door?

Yeah thats what I did but its still leaking, think its leaking from the bolt area, I know one of the bolt holes is open at the bottom to the coolant area that the oil cooler sits in.

Any suggestions in applying sealant around that whole area?

After some searching around and using the power of UV and some coolant dye I think I've managed to find my leak, it looks like the thermostat seal is away again, even after using grey sealant as well.

Anyway I heard that there was two types of thermostat seal, a thin crappy one that VX supplies which is the one I fitted, which is leaking again, and a thicker multi level seal that’s a much better seal and shouldn’t give any problems.

Can anyone tell me where I can find the thicker one, I've tried VX but the only seem to supply the one type, the thin cheap one?

I've got some tracer dye I'm gonna add to the coolant, it will hopefully show me where the water is coming from, does anyone have a picture of what a HG looks like, so I can see if the water channel is near the edge of the block?

OK, I've made myself a cap with a pressure valve on it and pressurised the system and can see nothing. No themostat leak no nothing, the HG seal looks juicy but that might be because of where the water is leaking or running.

Any other ideas in what to do, can I use rad weld or something?

Head has never been taken off, but I'm planning to remove the exhaust manifold on sunday, at least then I can see if there is any chance of the water running from somewhere else, if not then there might be more coolant marks along the rest of the seam.

If it is the HG is it possible to leak out coolant but not affect compression?

If it is leaking coolant how can it leak from one side of the head and not the other does that mean my head could be warped?

Car has only done 96k I thought the V6 engine was bomb proof as long as its looked after?

No broken studs that was my plan this weekend was to change my exhaust gasket and find out where my coolant was leaking.

Also changed my thermostat and resealed my oil cooler, have also checked for leaks there and its all dry

OK I've fixed my links, I've ran through the guide, no problem with oil, or oil mixing with the water or anything still got power in the engine, not sure if its just the outer hg thats leaking  :'(
