Omega General Help / Lumpy idle & stalls
« on: 29 May 2008, 11:09:13 »
Hope someone can help (again!!!)

Cured the miss fire problem with new dispack leads & plugs, crankshaft sensor was also changed (as I had a stored cod 19). I now seem to have a new problem. Idle is all over the place and it keeps stalling. wont idle at all when cold. Will idle after a run for a few minutes but only with the a/c on. if off it will stall as soon as I stop.

No eml on. Only code 19 stored. I'm guessing this is because it keeps stalling. Can't find an air leak anywhere. No oil in plugwells or anything like that.

Help?!

Am going to change the crank sensor again just incase I have a duff one as it does struggle to start when left 6+ hours. After it has started any restarts are 1st time.

If the crank sensor doesn't do anything what's the next step? EGR? MAF?

It will be where someone has changed the crank sensor and just cut the ends off the old one instead of compleatly removing it, as they are not the easyist bits of wire to remove.

Well day off friday so we shall see how it goes. Hopefully it should sort the problem. Can't see what else it could be as no EML on crank sensor changed etc. Looking forward to haveing a car that actually goes again! Fed up of driving an under powered Laguna.

Cheers Geff & all, it is def the oval one. Now I just have to work out how to get the damn thing out and the other one back in. Space looks to be at a premium back there, even with the plenum and scuttle off!

Omega General Help / Which Dis Pack?
« on: 03 March 2008, 10:20:55 »
Horrendous misfire at the moment on '97 mini facelift 2.5 auto. Pulled all the plugs at the weekend, no oil in plug wells. removed plugs and it looks like the 2-4-6 bank is not firing properly.

Got new plugs to go in, leads look alright (plugs & leads done less than 7k ago) so I am suspecting dispack given up. Probably something to do with the water leak roulnd the oil cooler plate (scheduled to sort out very soon), so I am woundering if anyone knows what dis-pack I have as there are 3? types? or is the only way for me to pull it before getting one? I wuld prefer to do it in one go instead of having to stop & wait for the parts to arrive!

Any help????

These figures are from the 'Range' display on the MID, not real0life mileage, but:

When I feel-up after a long motorway drive the Range is showing as 400+, on one occasion is actually showed 500.

After mixed driving it will show high 300+ e.g. 370.

After slow city driving it will show 300 or less, e.g. 270.

I don't remember ever seeing show less then 270 for a full tank regardless of driving conditions.

The long term average consumption is 22-24 mpg for mixed driving.

The engine is 2.6 with autobox, had a 2.5 before and it was pretty much the same.

Hope this helps.

I concur with this my 2.5 auto with mixed driving usually averages 22 - 24 mpg (FC reading)

Omega General Help / Unusual Exhaust Blow?
« on: 23 May 2007, 10:56:37 »
Well finally (now back from holiday) got round to checking wher my exhaust was blowing. I thought it was from the manifold gasket as it was getting louder and sounds a bit tappety, but on closer inspection it has a hole (getting larger)in the pipe that leads from the exhaust manifold to the EGR, in the bit with the bellows effect?? (for lack of a better term) just below the EGR on the top ridge.

Question 1 What metal is this pipe? Steel or alloy etc?

Question 2 is it weldable or scrappy job?

Question 3 How the hell did it go there????

As said check for air leaks etc, but when mine did this (exactly the same, started fine, ok when cold  - higher tickover -  but when at normal tickover would regularly stall) it was the crank sensor on the way out.

got to admit I don't remember seeing the check coolent level from the mid, but to be honest wasn't really looking at it,  but it was leaving a small droplet trail behind, there was steam coming out of the bonnet when sat at traffic lights (passenger side) and a fair bit running dowm when I parked up and had a good look underneath. Funny thing was the water on the ground wasn't red hot as I would have expected.

I will check the HBV properly tonight including the coolent level as it should be on full....it was after I changed the oil anyway!

Omega General Help / HBV?
« on: 01 May 2007, 09:26:56 »
Haven't had time to check yet but suspect that it has gone. On the way to and from work yesterday noticed what I thought was smoke burning off the engine (was expecting this as changed the oil and spilt a bit as only I can do!). When stopped I coudn't smell burning oil so had a look underneath and o and behold water dripping out at an alarming rate! At the rear of the engine over the drivers side. All I can think of there (unless a water pipe has gone but not enough water for that) is the HBV. Couldn't see it properly and coulnd stick me hand round there as it was too hot.

I will check properly tonight, but has anyone any other suggestions?

Also is it worth me doing the manifold gasket at the same time? as no doubt I'll have to get the plenum and injectors off to get to the HBV. Is it just as well to get the inlet manifold and coolent bridge off to get at that damn metal water pipe (where does this connect to anyway)?

Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 V6 ticking noise from engine
« on: 23 April 2007, 11:27:02 »
I realise it won';t cost that much in parts, but was just wondering how fiddly it will be as I haven't had a really good look at whats involved and officially an engine out job I recall.

I'm guessing ramps axel stands and mostly done from underneath, but what has to come off to give access to it.
