....
if you passed you test this year then you will need to sit a nother test to allow you to tow a caravan reguardless of weight.  .....

It's everything to do with weight! Look at their example!

new drivers are limited to 3.5 mam/gvw no excecptions
mam/gvw is the mass of the vehicle without any trailer. i.e vauxhall omega 3.0 auto elite estate 2200kgs train weight ( with a trailer ) 3900kgs

so vx omega elite estate 3.0 auto with a trailer braked or un braked not to be driven by newly passed drivers.

2 ways round that
1- pass trailer test for cars
2- become a show man

Omega is without doubt the best towcar I've had, bar none.

+1,I have towed with many different cars and 4x4s and the mig is the best so far :y :y

omega estate's are good tow cars however i dont think they are the best ( rose tinted glasses ) i have a discovery for towing with and imho that is far better than my miggy for towing i pull a twin axle knass 'van 28 foot long 1900kgs 6 berth

could be the heater by-pass valve(hbv) you dont need to strip down the top of your engine just the window wipers and scuttle panel that should enable you to change the hbv though not difficult to do it is trickey hth

Omega General Help / Re: Supercharger
« on: 19 November 2009, 18:33:39 »
A turbocharger and a supercharger are not really that different as far as the engine is concerned. Yes, the power delivery will be slightly different and the mechanical challenges of fitting them will be different (driving a supercharger from the crank vs. finding somewhere to mount a turbo).

Remember that a turbo leaches power from the engine as well. It's adding restriction to the exhaust system that the engine must work against. Some of that energy would have been wasted anyway, but not all by any means.

turbos can handle more power than super chargers, and the restriction you imply would only be a problem if you kept to the standard diametre exhaust

. i don't need turbo to achieve 5 PSI
2. installing turbo would be really more expensive than supercharger
3. installng turbo would be more complicated to fit (oil, cooling, lack of place for exhaust pipes)
4. turbo won't be efective under 3000rpm, supercharger 'gives power' instantly all over the rev range (no turbo lag)
5. i wanna be unique and i want to have supercharger

i agree turbo would be more expensive to install however would offer better performance than supercharging

turbos have changed since the late 80's when turbo lag was at its height. the advance of turbos over the years with ceramic varible vane technolgy etc turbos can give boost from as low as 1250 revs to 5000 revs where as a supercharger is limited by design to give a linar power surge 1000 revs to 4000 revs and takes power from the very engine you are trying to rasie power on

Look like Lotus Carlton alloys to me.

to the untrained eye may be but they are too thin think they are from carlton diamonds and diplomats and early omega b's

Omega General Help / Re: Autobox Oil cooler...
« on: 17 October 2009, 15:46:27 »
am i right in assuming that certain omegas (td's i think)  had a seperate oil cooler in one of the front wings!!!!!!

I seem to recall a friend got hold of one from a scrapped omega and fitted it to his 3.0 petrol to aid gearbox oil cooling while towing think they are fitted in the drivers wheel arch i shall try get hold of him and ask

Seen a chevy small block in a Omega,The chap told me IIRC the bulk head needs a bit of modification, small cut and weld job.Fitted 2 Kenlow fans and fitted a mesh grill for better air flow.He had a one off radiator made, same hight but slightly thicker. If can fit a small block Chevvy in to a Ex BT HA van (Major bulkhead mods) with no over heating problems i can't see why there should be in a omega.Only thing to think about is the brakes and suspension due to the extra weight.    :y

ive got the brakes, suspension, engine, box, ecus, the complete rolling chassis it even has a ripshifter fitted.

And part of the reason they pulled out were unresolved "issues" with the cooling ........

Just so you know

I wouldn't meet the vollgasfest requirement (in other words, would likely suffer if some German decided to take it up the Autobahn bouncing off the rev limiter in top).

It would probably have been fine for all practical purposes in this country.

Kevin

so problems with cooling could be an issue certainly if using a supercharger.
the engine is indeed the 5.7 v8 designation ls1 thanks for the info guys like i said im toying with the idea at the moment for a winter project.
I have access to the complete running gear just not the interior due to the roof being cut off.

Andy thanks for your intrest i may need to pick you gray matter if /when i start it if not i shall give you first refusal on the lot

thanks for the help guys

Omega General Help / v8 in to omega?????????
« on: 30 September 2009, 15:52:32 »
just wondering if anybody on here would be able to answer if the ls1 v8 from a vauxhall monaro cv8 would fit in an omega engine bay?
I have the option to get the complete running gear engine gearbox propshaft lsd diff all ecus and wiring etc from a 2002 monaro and i have a mv6 omega 2001 with blown engine and was thinking that would make a good match.
So are there any members out there who could help me
