Omega General Help / Climate Control
« on: 05 July 2009, 07:34:11 »
Hi folks, not been on here for a while, very busy at the moment, just thought I'd pop on to say Hi and to get a wee bit of help as I'm a bit stuck.
Climate control playing up, If I put it on HI it's piping hot, A/C down on LO it freezes ones nuts off.  The intermediate temperatures all seem to be blowing in at the ambient outside temperature, the little sampling fan is working, I've done the paper test, also I've blown it out with an air jet, I've also sync'd the fans too.   Any other suggestions before I rip it to pieces???  ;D

Its worth contacting one of the uk suppliers of gasket kits, they might be happy to ship to you...., try this one (i have used them in ther past).

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-SINTRA-SAAB-9000-3-0-V6-HEAD-GASKET-SET_W0QQitemZ110006812479QQihZ001QQcategoryZ10404QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Start with the engine......then look at the box...if you get bored drop the front sump off the box and check for debris.....

The V6 heads VERY rarely warp unless seriously cooked....

Also, use genuine exhaust manifold gaskets as they are considerably better than the composite ones in the kits.....

Also,  use genuine VX cam cover gaskets too...  cheapo ones don't last 300 miles...  expensive but cost effective....

Already had a look at that Lizzie, they were done recently, well 2 years ago!

Cheers DC

Using genuine Vx seals? :-?

Yes genuine seals, I found out the hard way by doing it twice  >:(

Can't see any oil at the rear of the rockers, deffo looks like it'e coming from the small pressing vent / drain at the rear of the bell housing...

I will have another really good look though, thanks folks..

Omega General Help / Oil Leak
« on: 05 July 2009, 07:39:48 »
Got a bit of a drip of engine oil from the rear of the block where it meets the transmission bellhousing, it's definately engine oil! I suspect the crank rear oil seal behind the flywheel, unless anyone may have other suggestions!
If I'm right, is it a biggish job on an autobox?  Done this before on Granada's, they're more easily accesible in my opinion though.

Any suggestions?  :-/

The following is the excellent OOF guide on how to change your cam cover gaskets and all the parts and part numbers you need:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152564281

It is very advisable to only use genuine Vx parts (the cheap gaskets are rubbish and don't last long!) ;).

It is a straight forward job, although as already stated it is a bit fiddly when doing the passenger bank side of the engine.  Just follow the excellent instruction and you will not go wrong! ;) ;) ;)

Just as Lizzie says... genuine only :y

Omega General Help / Re: Central Locking
« on: 14 April 2009, 17:23:34 »
Ok! and now for the update :o

Got a spare, known, good actuator. Plugged it in!
Nowt  :-/

Took some meter readings, all doing just what they should :y

It was a current problem, not enough current over several strands in an almost broken cable (Black / Yellow), traced it to inside the rubber grommet thingy from B Pillar to door, think it's been going down for sometime, as it's been a bit lethargic over the winter...

Anyway, sorted now ::)

Haven't had the time to check wiring diagrams yet, nor have I had the chance to wizz the door card off as yet.  It's my R O/S door, no lock or unlock, can't feel the click through the knob when activating the central locking, seems dead, has anyone experienced any common causes for this, fuses etc...

Guys, Gals..

The outcome is good, they use Visualiner kit, that's Snap On to you and I....  the pods are WiFi linked to the computer, please see the printout for before and after readings, drives much straighter now.

Would I reccomend them ?   YES!  An excellent customer experience...

Omega General Help / Front Camber - North of Watford Gap
« on: 07 March 2009, 07:46:50 »
I called Tony at W I M yesterday to pick his brains on the set up of the alignment for the Meega, as Mark DTM stated and not that I doubted him, Tony says camber needs to be 1 deg 10 as opposed to 1 deg 40 as VX didn't get it quite right in the start.

Taking mine to ABP Motorsport today, they're in Shavington, Cheshire.

So, I'll report back later.  Tony is after somewhere to reccomend further North, so this'll be the tester.  They do actually have a good reputation anyway.... but, we'll see...

We had used to have a rapid response police Omega in Stoke-on-Trent, it had been lowered and was carrying loads of crap in it's boot, now, that was a serious camber issue, think about the corner handling, it must have been brill ! :y

I have recently replaced all 4 tyres but the ones worn on the inside were only the front ones. I have fitted 2 new wishbones since and had all 4  wheels aligned
The rear tyres were fine.

Don't worry then, as previously said, it's quite normal for them to look this way on the rear...

 ;)
