Omega General Help / Drop-links?
« on: 08 February 2010, 08:32:33 »
As some of you know, Daz changed amongst many other things last week, both the front wishbones, which has cured the knocking I was getting on speed bumps and under braking. However I still get a creak from the front when going over the speed bumps in our estate, but only when the car is first started. On the way home I don't get the noise. Thinking the drop links on the front need to be changed also, but could it also be the coils? I just find it odd it only happens after the car has been standing a while.

Remove the top cowling off the steering wheel, held on by a screw either side of the wheel IIRC, screwed on from underneath.

I had a similar issue on, of all things, a petrol powered Transit a few years ago. No code on diagnostics but I recognised the symptoms from when I had a Vectra fall foul of Tesco's bout of dodgy fuel, so I changed the MAF and all was well. Going by your symptoms and the other replies, I would also recommend getting a new MAF.

Sure i rad a post not to long ago saying that its actually the same MAF unit in some of the omegas as it is in the transits (well some of them). :y

Not aware of that but it might be. The petrol Transit had the same 2.0l DOHC engine found in the Scorpio.

Omega General Help / Colour code
« on: 05 February 2010, 19:16:36 »
Daft question but where do you find out the colour code of the paint on the Omega? Had a look at the plate on the rad cover but not there.  :-/

Look for a similar aged CDX or Elite or ask one of the breakers on here.

Yes I've just now spoken to Daz and we have decided to change the wishbones anyway. Thanks for your help.

No but I get a knocking sound when braking on rough surface or going over harsher speed bumps. This topic came up when the garage were inspecting the car pre-MoT.

Omega General Help / Wishbone bushes
« on: 27 January 2010, 18:35:05 »
OK me & Daz are trying to decipher which bushes on the front wishbones needs replacing. From what I can gather from the garage the bushes that have gone are where the rear bushes on the front wishbones on the front suspension meet the chassis via a ball joint & flange pad. Does anyone know if these bushes are related to the steering idler or track rods?

If it helps my daily commute consists 5 miles of country lanes followed by a 15 mile dual carriageway blast then about 5 miles of city traffic. I average 29mpg with my 2.5.

On a motorway run it averaged 37mpg.

Omega General Help / Re: Sharp gear change on auto
« on: 25 November 2009, 13:13:28 »
Hi. The ATF was red admittedly the engine wasn't running when I checked it although engine was at operating temp. My ATF lid has 3 levels of thickness - the atf was up to the bottom of the thickest section nearest to the lid. I'll check it again when I get home from work before I switch off the engine.

As an aside, should I have a separate manual for the autobox, as it's not mentioned in the Vauxhall manuals I got with the car.

Omega General Help / Sharp gear change on auto
« on: 24 November 2009, 19:44:43 »
Recently my Elite's auto-box has started delaying changing from 2nd to 3rd and the gearchange is a a bit sharp. Changing all other gears is still silky smooth and it doesn't always happen. I checked the atf and it seems fine, although the Elite is being serviced in Jan anyway, but could there be anything else to look for?
