Omega General Help / Re: EML code
« on: 03 April 2010, 18:46:55 »
Trust my old tub to have an awkward fault!  ;D

We used a MAXSCAN code reader and there were no engine codes stored or pending so we tried the Auto trans, again, no stored but this came up as a pending code. There were no other codes at all.  :-?

Anyone have any clues?

Omega General Help / EML code
« on: 03 April 2010, 17:42:19 »
Hi, I've had an intermittent EML which rarely pops up, doesen't appear to affect the car's performace and clears on start-up.

Just read the code and it's P1890, 'PCM  Data Input Circuit or Throttle Position Signal Input'.

Any of you boffins able to advise me as to what this means and how to cure in the world of Omegas please? The car is a 2002 2.2 CD Auto.

Thanks.  ;)

Thanks Steve,

I realise the pad sensor is the connection to warn of low fricton material but where does this sit and is it really required for a pad change? I'm not worried about saving a few quid especially with brakes but just a bit surprised.  ;)

Omega General Help / Auto Trans fluid level.
« on: 16 March 2010, 19:15:40 »
Finally got my trans & diff topped up today. Diff took about a cupful but there is definitely a leak at the propshaft end. I'll sort in the warmer weather.
The trans took about 1/2-2/3 litre which I felt was a lot.
Strange thing though, I always had an intermittent EML whenever I drove in traffic, stop start driving seemed to cause it but since topping up all seemed well today through the busy rush hour crawl. Would a low (ish) fluid level cause an EML? Just curious.  :-/

but I guess these have been asked a thousand times  :-[

Is the diff oil hypoid 90, poss 80W90?

Is the level plug on the driver's side of the casing?

Auto trans level plug, is it too on the driver's side casing of trans?

Cheers guys.  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Bloomin' rattle
« on: 08 March 2010, 22:49:21 »
Thanks to both you guys.  :y

I'm hoping its something like this, perhaps vibrating in sympathy with engine speed until at higher revs it smooths out.

I'm gonna book in to get tranny fluid checked hopefully in a day or two so while its on the ramp I'll have a look around.

Does anyone know, by the way what sort of fluid the 2.2 autobox takes?

Cheers again.  ;)

« on: 08 March 2010, 19:08:12 »
Lo again guys.

I've posted once before about a rattle I just cant trace on my 2.2 auto.

on a cold start the engine sounds fine. As it begins to warm up a rattle develops and gets louder as running temp is reached. It speeds up with engine speed until about 1800 rpm then goes. It appears to be coming from the driver's side of the engine bay or thereabouts.

Totally unrelated to this I've had the head off and the ex manifold studs all renewed and the timing belt, pullys , tensioner and water pump all been renewed.

Pretty sure its not lifters as not there cold but gets worse as it warms.

I suppose I need to call in a professional but just in case: has anyone had anything like this before, poss exhaust heat shield, transmission noise, loose silencer baffle etc? Could low auto transmission fluid do this? Perhaps throttle body or related kit? Car all runs sweet by the way.  :-/ Any pointers appreciated. Sorry for the long post.  :-[

Omega General Help / Re: Facia vinyl
« on: 07 March 2010, 07:51:14 »
Cheers Damon, if I could get a colour match I think the sealant would do the trick, or at least diguise it enough anyway. By the way, nice to hear from Wigan, I'm 8 miles away in Skem.  :y

Omega General Help / Facia vinyl

The previous owner of my facelift CD must have had something adhesive stuck to the facia, just below the digital display. The result is the vinyl has split and looks a bit of a mess. Was wondering if anyone had heard of a product that could repair this or even if someone may, by off-chance have a piece of this stuff from a stripped car, maybe 2" X 1".
The colour is grey.

Worth a try.  :P
