General Discussion Area / Re: Brackley Cam Belt Events catering

With regards to the catering for these parties - are both the V6 and 4-Pot joining forces?  I'm going to be there and I was intending to bring a couple of cases of beer along, won't be staying sadly due to time restraints, but I was going to do this anyway to say thanks for the MASSIVE favour I'm being done! I'll grab a monster bottle of ketchup too, what about mayo (not the stuff from my oil filler :P)?

Also seeing as I'll not be drinking it, any preference on what I get?

I just want to check I've got everything I need if poss - this will be un-technical, so bare with me..

Cam belt change - timing kit includes belt, what i assume is the tensioner (metal thing with 2 wheels on it) bag of bolts, additional wheel thing

Aux belt - just the belt

Water Pump - just the pump

Antifreeze (5L)
you should have an 'O' ring with the water pump ... Vx P/N 90354908 (pump should be Vx P/N 90543277)

also silicone grease to spray on the pump to block mating surface - but I'm bringing a spray can of that ... well "white lithium grease" which I think is the same thing?

Got my housemate to check, its there, we're all set  :y

Hmm, I've got a feeling that theres no o-ring in with it, unless its attached to the pump already..

It will get done.....I can always leave Laidback66 doing MaxV6's handbrake whilst I do the cambelt...then fit yours in....

Brill, I shall definitely see you all there then :) Be good to put faces to names, even if I have only been a member / omega owner for just over a day

If me turning up with this V6 is going to cause probs then I'd rather not throw spanners in the works - I can still take it too this mehanic up the road to get it done (albeit at a cost!) - Seeing as I was late confirming anyway I don't want to spoil anyones day by any means..

Just let me know sooner rather than later so I can un-cancel my booking!

Cheers,

Chris.
I suspect, if you are able to do the 'stripdown' bit with guidance from others, it shouldn't be a problem to get new belt on and timed up, then let you put all the other bits back on (again with guidance).  With the number of people about at both sites, I'm sure we can get you fitted in somewhere, assuming no major snags happen...

Well with the guidance, + the haynes + the guide on here I should be able to get on with the stripdown - I printed the instructions off for the cam locking kit too, they seem pretty comprehensive - obviously we're still gonna need to borrow the actual kit at some point.. If you reckon theres a high chance then I shall appear, as before, laden with booze which sadly I won't be able to touch..

Excellent!  ;D I can't wait - you can all marvel at the absolute state of my cam cover gaskets!  I'm going to be much more confident when I get back, so I'll be attempting them the following weekend  :o

Decided I'm going to do everything mechanical that needs sorting before making it look the dogs nuts - its quite funny that nearly every maintenance guide written on this forum is something that I actually need to do - after my cam cover gaskets and oil breather system clean its going to be wishbones and droplinks!

At least we can get the cambelt out the way, you don't want that going! If we have time I can take a look at the breathers.. got a tin of carb cleaner  :y

I certainly have :) And yes, I'll feel a million times better when the belts done!

I've got a 1/2" drive set - whats an E20 - I'm not brilliant with all this stuff as you might already be able to tell ;)
It's a Torx socket sometimes known as T20 (I think).

Cheers, not in my box though  :-[

I heard rumours of about 7 quid somewhere, I'll check it out tomorrow..
no .. that's for the 2 litre lumps - just a locking tool.

The V6 equivalent is a locking KIT - there's much more to it - typical new price is about £120 (£160 here, but there was a seller that had them for about £50 a year or so ago, which got advertised on the forums and sold out !!!

holy s**t! Thats a bit extorsionate!

You reckon there might be a chance of a loan from the V6 party?
