It definetely sounds like a coolant problem, check the basics like does the radiator/pipes get hot? is hot air always avaliable from the heaters? is it losing any water? is there anything blocking the radiator? ie plastic bag, leaves etc.

I wouldnt imagine it would be the thermostat because any ive seen fail before generally makes them run hot always and not just at speeds.

Omega General Help / Re: can i paint my alloy in black?
« on: 20 February 2008, 17:07:42 »
i painted the wheels on my 106 black from silver and its really easy.

I done it the "quick" way as i had to leave the next day for a show so far from the best but....

first of all i taped off the tyre (take your time as if you miss a bit its very noticable at the end), then got a good grey primer (acid edge rings a bell), i gave mine 2 coats drying and sanding in between in my specially made booth (2 clothes horses with sheets and 2 hair dryers  :y) then i used a black wheel paint from halfords, gave it 2 coats and jobs a goodun! your meant to leave it 12hrs between each coats but i done 4 coats in 1 night and drove 500+ miles the days after.

It obviously isnt as good as powder coating but no-one could tell the diffrence without getting really really close (and they were serious car buffs), 6 months on and theres a few chips but overall for £20 they still look really really good! id definetly do it again!

the oil leaking into the plug wells has probably knackered the coil pack,it doesnt take long

yeah thats what i was thinking but is there any to be sure without taking it out? dont really fancy changing it if i dont have to lol

Omega General Help / Help! Engine probs

Ok where to start, the car dropped some cylinders just before christmas and being the time of year i was a little skint so its been sitting since then, i got the bits last week and fitted them this weekend.

Ive changed the rocker gaskets because they were letting oil into the plug wells, all went well and no more oil however its still lost the 2 back cylinders so i got a new set of leads and after losing most of the skin on my forearms changed the leads, took it for a few miles drive after letting i warm up but it was totally gutless, took the revs up and it took a while (in 2nd gear) to get to 5.5k then the limiter kicked in.

The confusing thing is that it isnt showing any fault codes which i would expect if the coil pack is away, also my mate who owned the car before me had changed the coil pack (with some difficulties) for a re-conditioned one so i wouldn't expect it to fail this quickly but it is a possibility i suppose.

Has anyone go any ideas of what it could be? its still getting fuel which makes me think its got to be spark related, any help would be appreciated.
