It happened on a 2.5 saloon I owned. After advice I scrapped the car. I believe saloons are more prone to this problem that estates.
Thats my impression too. Have seen this on two saloons. Meanwhile one of my estates was so rusty underneath that you couldnt keep the spare wheel in its well because most of it was gone. Both rear wheels could be seen from inside the load area and one of the chassi rails was rusted so it had broken in two. Shocks was still fine:p

Had this on a 94 saloon. One of the rear shock suddenly ripped through the top of the «tower» and moved freely inside the boot. Solution was to cut out the tower from a car on the scrapyard and weld that in. That was a couple of years ago and car is still in daily use.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: door mirror switches

Would think so. Check that the wire colours are the same. Be aware that the early type with the yellow telltale light comes in two different versions. 94-95 cars have a different connector than 96 and up.

I have two Omega estates and both behave the opposite to yours. Windscreen and headlights work immidiately but rear window takes a few seconds to start spraying. Really dont think there is anything but hoses and nozzles after the pump. The estate pump has some kind of cylinder attached to it where the hoses come out. Always thought that was some kind of valve.

Omega General Help / x20xev eml on
« on: 05 April 2019, 23:00:25 »
1994 Omega 2,0 16v eml stayed on one morning, and have been on since. No coming and going just always on. Did the paperclip test and got codes 38 and 91. 38 being a faultcode for the o2 sensor, and 91 being the o2sensors heater element. Have not had much time to look at it yet but was underneath the car and checked the connector for the sensor which looked fine. Also wiring in the area from connector on gearbox to sensor looked intact. Never had this fault before but suspects an o2 sensor fault code can be caused by other things too. But im thinking that the sensor heater fault code would point to either defective wiring or defective sensor? And that the code 38 for the sensor itself is just a result of the heater not working so that the sensor fails its readings due to not reaching operating temperature? Can the heater in the sensor be checked by Ohm meter, and what readings am i looking for?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: power sounder
« on: 05 April 2019, 08:07:17 »
If there is no sound from the alarm, replace the standard alarm horn. The powersounder was a vauxhall/uk exclusive and are not found on Opel cars. I have never seen one except on this forum. Alarm works very well without it. As i understand it the only purpose of the power sounder (except setting your car on fire) was to sound the alarm if main battery is disconnected. The bonnet switch will do that job just fine. Will be very hard to disconnect battery without first upsetting the bonnet switch.

To update on this, the old type steering wheel is so different from the newer type that i couldnt find a reasonable way of fitting radio controls to it. Ended up fitting the new leather wheel i bought in the 97 Omega. After a fair bit of cutting to the back of the airbag cover the original airbag finally fitted. Buttons work great in this car. As for the 94 Omega this will need both a new wheel and a new airbag to fit radio buttons. Will only do this if/when i can find a car being broken for parts locally where i can remove the wheel and airbag myself so i know that any second hand airbag has been installed in a working car and not possibly been stored outside in a pile of snow or something:)

Omega General Help / Re: Self leveling rear shocks
« on: 25 March 2019, 05:22:37 »
I’ve used the Monroes in the eBay link on an estate with self levelling. Works great but as doc Gollum says needs a small modification to the airlines. Cant remember exactly since its been years since ive fitted them, (still works), but i believe that i just cut of the original connector on one side to join the Omegas air line to the shock. On the other side the original air line was a little to short so i believe i used parts of the lines from the monroe kit and joined up with the omega lines at the t-piece over the rear axle.

OK. Maybe the switch got changed over the years. Ive got a 94, a 95 and a 97 Omega and they all have that led which comes on with the heating, but they dont have an icon on the glass. Be aware that if you do go for a new second hand switch there are two completely different connectors on them. 94 and 95 cars have a much smaller connector. Found that out the hard way when changing a switch. Ended up cutting and soldering all the wires to get the right kind of connector.

85
No need to remove doorcard. The handle part that the switch is attached to comes loose when undoing 3 bolts without disturbing the rest of the doorcard. Led is for heated mirrors. Comes on with heated rear window. Thought all Omegas had that, but maybe that was standard only in scandinavia. Never opened up such a switch myself, but would assume it will be doable to take one apart and clean it being careful.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Light bulb in light switch
« on: 08 March 2019, 07:51:14 »
There is a little light bulb in the back of the main light switch. 12v 0,5w with a small plastic base. Smaller than the instrument lights. Gm90511962. Where do people get hold of this? Cant really find online and the local Opel dealer said it was out of stock in Norway, «local» storage in sweden and main storage in Germany. Is there any other bulbs that fit? Maybe get 0,5w bulb without base and solder it in an old bulb base? Opel dealer send a request for me but im not holding my breath.

Yep. I know. I know the Norwegian name for it but not the english:) anyway the early type airbag seemes to be wrong shape to fit to a later type wheel and cover. I have now ordered a hopefully correct type sliding connector thingy and a later type leather wheel with remote buttons but without the airbag from German eBay. Bought one without the bag to avoid any problems with post/customs.
The plan is to remove airbag from 1994 Omega and check if i can make the remote buttons from the new wheel fit the old wheel and bag in such a way that it looks original. If i cant make it fit i will put the new wheel with buttons in my 1997 Omega which already have the new type wheel but no remote and not leather so airbag will just bolt over.
Thanks for advice.

Phantom sunroof is a well known thing on the Omega. But fairly easy to fix. There is a guide under maintenance section on her to fox it. Cleaning the switch mechanism. I did this myself on one of my Omegas many years ago and never had an issue since. As for the headlight/indicator issue i would try a new stalk. Easy to swap. Just remove plastic cowling around coloumn and the stalk just clips out. On the mirrors i would also try a new switch. If no obvious damage can be seen on the wiring from door to a-pillar.

Thinking of retrofitting radio controls on the steering wheel in a 1994 Omega. The wiring itself i believe i have under control, but the issue is that the 1994 and 1995 Omegas have a different steering wheel than the newer pfl Omegas. Also these early cars never had the remote control option. This means i have to change the entire wheel to one from a 1996-1999 car. This also means that my current airbag wont fit and i need to use the airbag from the new wheel which i will probably get from eBay.
But im unsure if this is safe to use an unknown airbag? If i change the wheel and the airbag and the airbag light goes out as it should does this mean the new bag is ok? Or is it anybodys guess.
The other option would be to try and modify the existing wheel to fit the remote switches.
