Quickly pop out / remove the whole headlight switch unit and that may power down light and confirm faulty headlight switch unit ?

Not removed the one on my omega, but same thing happened on my old Carlton Diplomat  :D

Thanks for all posts.

Is there a website for Eternal ?

Thanks.

It just seems "Too cheap" so thought seek other opinions .

I cant find a link to the recommended 'Eternal' one ?

But guess this is the same ?

Both same price and assume the 3.0 one with twin pipes should fit no problem my 2.5 if I bought the Cat back set of 3 pipes ??

Assume easier to perhaps get a local garage to fit ?  As I assume they could be a pain if things don't go straight forward ?  (one currently on been there for several years  :y)

Hi all,

Noticed the other day that there was a couple of feet of 'Horse Hair' following me from my Tailpipe :(   Looks looks like some of the Baffle is loose.

I cut off the offending 'End Trail' but I can see the hair if look up the pipe  :-[  Nothing appears to come out with normal driving.

Car not sound any different, but should I get a new back box on it now ?  Last one I had was about 8 years ago from the dealer and cost a packet  :( but was VX one.

I see they are somewhat cheaper now, but are there makes to get ? or more importantly AVOID from experiences ?

I want to keep the car as original as can, and sounding decent and quiet, but I don't mind a little V6 growl and prefer the twin tailpipe ;) rather than single on my 2.5V6  :'( (I hear that either rear box will however fit ??? ).

Any advice welcome.

There are cheap ones on E.bay:

Seems like a gamble whichever I pick ?  so any advice welcome as want to fit a decent one.

Thanks,
Andy.

« on: 23 February 2014, 18:30:32 »
And not too heavy handed on the tourque  ;). 10Nm for Torx Sump drain plug according to Haynes manual  :y.

Cheers.  I think Nigel Langs was where I had in mind.

Not sure if Elite Pete or Daz would want to crawl under car for wishbones ?  Daz did sterling work on Oil cooler leak and Cambelt change last year  :y

Let me know chaps if your willing - happy to see you right naturally  :y

Omega General Help / Wishbone, tyrewear and geometry stetup advice.
« on: 22 February 2014, 10:46:57 »
Hi all.

I have read quite a few posts on this and I think I have a conclusion based on my position and reading the various posts, but wanted to seek guidance from the great and good on the forum that I am doing the right thing before I commit, since it may cost a little but hopefully get the car sorted for another 14 years !!

Summary:  Last MOT showed Nearside and Offside front Suspension arm synthetic bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement [2.4.G.2].  It was also commented that both front tyres worn on inner tread.

History:  I have had car from new (2.5 V6 CDX – Pre Facelift, on V plate – 56k mls on clock :))  Front tyres always worn on the inside edge.  I had, at recommendation from a 'local' garage to have the wishbones changed (from the original ones) some 6 years ago I would estimate.  Had new tyres on front too at that time but was never happy with the cowboys who did it and to annoy me more the steering wheel was then never central !!!!

Now:  6 years later (and about 10k miles later I would expect) front tyres are excessively worn on inner edge and I have always doubted that it was ever 'Tracked' correctly as I can see the front tyres definitely seemed to be pointing slightly outwards compared to the rears.  I only do about 1k mls a year so not heavy mileage !!! (but my pushbike takes a pounding !!!)

Going forward:  I was planning (as I don't know what the cowboys fitted 6 years ago) to have a new set of front wishbones and try to get a decent garage (who have some care !) locally to fit them and get to track back up.  The posts on the forum suggest that 'Lemforder' wishbones are the ones to get (from All German Parts ? Code 27734 02  & 27735 02)

The car needs 4 new tyres, so after the wishbones, the next plan was to book in at Wheels In Motion (Bolton are the nearest to me from Chester :( ) and get them to fit 4 new tyres and get full geometry setup.

Does this sound like the best thing to do ?  Whilst I am ordering from All German Parts, should there be anything else I should get fitted (there seems to be quite a few bits on the website !!)

Thanks in advance for guidance.  Anybody know anybody local to Chester and the Wirral who could slap a pair of wishbones on if I get them ????

Cheers,
Andy.

Yep a Dr.   :). And cough sir  ;)

Depends where you are, but if stuck then "unit 20 vw audi specialist" maybe worth a go. Based in Neston on the Wirral in Cheshire.  Everybody I know with VW's goes there, and has some nice RS6's and S8's  :D. Spookily I have a  VW Touran too!  But not a patch on my Omega V6  :y which i seek comfort from the great and the good on this tremendous forum  :y.

Good luck.

Sounds daft  ;). But is it an Auto and moved gear selector ?

That caught me out on Wife's VW as stopped car on drive, engine off, opened garage, tried to start car and nowt !!!!! Only the sound of various relays saying NO !!!  All rather embarrassing after 10 mins of threatening to take car apart as noticed was in Drive still.  Popped into Park and started a treat  :D

Not sure if this same on Omega Auto as mine is a Manual  :y

Oil all changed  :y  and running smooth  :D

Was O Ring Washer :y and 10Nm from Haynes  ;)

What made me laugh, was when got the sump plug seal from the VX Stealer the other day the parts chap said:

"Oooh, we don't get may Omega's in now ! To be honest mate, they were the last BEST car we made - it's all really been downhill since we stopped the Omega"   ;D

Total price - 29p !!  and he gave me 3 O rings and 3 Copper ones  :)

Thanks for quick reply.

I think, but will check, that its the torx plug ( large head as I Recall and i remember buying a bit for socket set) so will make sure I get one with o ring on then.  I suspect they sold me copper one last time.

Thanks for help, with tourque settings noted for torx one  :y

The car sits for a few days in the garage tucked under its blanket  :y.

As it would have been sitting for s few days would it be best to drop oil straight out or run engine for few mins to warm oil a little and then drain ?
