Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Re: cat shields / covers
« on: 04 September 2023, 09:49:44 »
this is true BUT they were fitted as standard so gm must have thought they were needed and the n/s one does protect the nearby steering pipes (to a degree) plus my mot man and the mot guide says about 'any risk of fire 'due to missing shields. its not totally clear 100% wether this relates to actual exhaust cover skins or body shields .mine are present and ok at the moment and sshould be ok for the next few years so it will give metime to find or make replacements .

and whilst we are talking about comfortable cars and not wanting to start a tyre thread ! i have just put some uniroyal rainexpert on one of my cars. thetransformation was unbeleivable. victor meldrew would be lost for words !
the softness of the compound on these tyres is amazing and whilst obviously due to this they wont be good for high mileages the ride comfort is the best i have experienced .i always have used goodyear on everything for years but i may have to reconsider. .....

General Car Chat / Re: Car covers

this is the problem of using car covers. they either stick to the surface like yours has or promote condensation .the breathable ones are supposed to overcome this problem .maybee ?
but also any dust that gets under it will scratch the surface if the cover gets any movement from wind so realy cars are better off uncovered. a good clean and wax coating regularly should keep the paintwork good.main issue ive found over the years when not using a car for many months is the surface rust that starts on brake discs. light rusting rubs off but anything more starts to cause pitting.

cant see the repair kit working as a permanent fix if at all ? ?
just out of curiosity why are yours going to be very expensive ? are they an unusually large size ?
replacements for most sizes are usually pretty cheap.i replaced 4 for less than £120 only last year ?

the starter has 2 wires to it, see if you can get a wire down to the smaller one. touching this to the battery positive will confirm if the starter is ok.
if it is then you need to find why its not getting 12v from ignition switch. usual suspect would be the gear lever inhibit but unusual to fail in neutral and park too !

to my understanding and assuming the ecu hasnt been damaged in any way the fact that the light comes on and stays on even before you  are moving suggests that the ecu thinks there is a problem.i would double check the connections and even recheck the resistance readings .if you can read the circuit diag it might be worth reading the resistances at the abs ecu plug itself.
i dont have any front ones to hand to compare but my spare rear ones measure 1.5 k ohms.

IF  everything was ok regarding the abs before you changed the front sensors then it suggests an issue with the actual new sensors or the fitment of them.
are you 100% sure the connections are good.
are you 100% sure the new sensors are fully fitted into their recess and that no debris remains in the hole that could affect the reading in any way.
was the car switched on with the old damaged sensors in place ? could this have shorted / damaged the abs ecu ?
the abs light should come on initially and then go off whilst you are not moving proving the system thinks all is ok and then if it comes on once moving means it has detected an abnormality .

Omega General Help / Re: Coolant Low Level Warning
« on: 31 July 2023, 22:55:05 »
its usually an issue with the float inside the lid/tube. this operates a reedswitch under the tank. it can be replaced if its the actual reedswitch thats faulty( or another working lid.)
otherwise just join the 2 wires andcheck level manually.

rear pads and internal shoes readily available on ebay or most factors.
shoes i wouldnt replace unless they are cracking or coming off the lining as they should theoretically last forever !

seeing as they are only dust shields rather than the rear ones which actually do a job then surely there must be a similar type on something that can be modded to fit (or will fit) the front style is certainly quite conventional .

once done i wouldnt be surprised for the groaning to still be there.
dry top mounts or antiroll bar drop links would be my guess ?
