Omega General Help / Re: Temerature gauge

Driving car today had covrd about 50 miles, car running fine...all of a sudden temp gauge shoots up to 100c+ and then drops suddenly back down again (too quick for it to be fan cutting in?). Then starts to behave very erratically up and down the gauge first red hot then back to normal.

Mine used to do something similar when stuck in traffic, it would go right into the red and a warning light would come on, after 5-10 seconds or so it would shoot back down to 90 ish then slowly creep back up again. I then found that 2 30 amp fuses had gone in the engine bay near the relays which were hidden under a load of wires! seems to be fine now although haven't been in as bad traffic since, but the temp is much more stable now.

Omega General Help / Where does this bit go?
« on: 10 March 2007, 11:35:56 »
I cleared out my scuttle drain last weekend and after I'd put everything back together I had this rubber strip left over:

Can someone tell me where it came form please?!  :-[

Omega General Help / Re: Steering Idler
« on: 16 February 2007, 08:24:34 »
I find it hard to describe my steering as well. It definitely pulls to the left, but all I can say is that if I'm going 50 plus round a bend I have to grip the wheel very tight or it's a bit scary! or if I brake hard at speed the car is all over the place. Also I can steer like I'm in an old film, moving the wheel left and right a small amount but not turning at all!

Omega General Help / Re: Is this my crank sensor?

Well it's running again, got it towed to a garage and it took them a while to find it, in the end they took the crank sensor out and put it back in again  :-[
Don't know how I didn't do it properly as it seemed to be in fine but there we go! Shame it cost me £117 to find out this way but I'm glad I attempted it, made me a lot more confident about working on a car.
Thanks for everyone's help.
Andy

If the service history is all filled in correctly, the last time the fuel filter was changed was almost 30000 miles ago...
I'll have to find someone who knows how to check for 12v and try it, I don't have a multimeter - to be honest it'll probably get to a garage before I try anything else - just hope it's not going to be pricey!

That didn't work either. I did notice though that the 2 small green fuses in there had blown - that may help out with my overheating problem! Not that I have a danger of overheating at the moment  :-/

I couldn't accuse it of spraying out, a dribble from each one before stopping really. Does it make a difference that it hasn't been started for a week or should it always be under pressure?
Many thanks.

There is an amount of fuel dripping out when I take it off, do I need to try and start the engine to test properly? I'm on my own so may be a bit difficult if that's what I need to do.

It may be you know, had to flip it as I took the picture upside down! Is the sensor right next to the oil filter - almost touching with a silvery coloured sheath over the cable?

Right, got the day off to do my crank sensor (yes it probably will take that long!)
Is this the crank sensor?

Excuse the phone camera pictures, my girlfriend has taken our proper camera to school.
She's a teacher by the way, I don't go out with a schoolgirl... :o

Cheers!
