true !!!however how many people have an engine hoist that big and strong? apart from me??
 with a std hoist you may struggle to lift the engine and box high enough, plus leaving the front wheels on the ground and thr rears up means you dont need quite so much lift!! horses for courses etc

I actually think this is a good method.I rather like the Heath Robinson approach. I used it to get my gear box back in but weding long bars and levering it gradually upwards. Thanks for that one,it goes in my book of 'Useless information for anyone other than car enthusiasts'.

Any thoughts most welcome - I want to do my engine change as soon as I ever get time - but I've never done the job before 

The autobox is huge - will it really all go in as one unit?  :-?

Yes, it will but if you look at the angle TB's got it. Mine's manual so I separated the two but wish I hadn't. The only thing I would advise you is that the aircon pipe and brake pipe can foul when putting the V6 in. I wouldalso remove the cats completely. FWIW, I put the engine and gearbox in single handed, so it can be done but would strongly recommend a friend.

Do the temp sensor. I'd wager money it was that. What have you got to lose? you can do it yourself and its gonna cost you £30

I wasjust about to say temperature sensor. Its a well known GM fault that goes back years. I had the smae problem (on all things!) on my Chevy Camaro 5.7. 4-5 miles nothing and then misfiring, stuttering conking out. Limp home. I replaced everything and then a real expert told me. £6.00 later and the problem has never returned. The sensor, if faulty believes that the engine is cold when it is in fact hot and therefore forces the ECU into acting like the car is on cold start up. Replace this before anything else.

Agreed. Get under it and check to see if the seals are leaking. If the fluid has been replaced, has it had the additive put in?

If you look on the rocker cover, it'll tell you the order, just correspond the cylinders to the numbers on the pack.

Thats how I do it.....its a fiddle to get it in and out but can be done.

The other method is to use a socket on a number of extensions and thread it down past the PAS pump to get to the pipe plate bolt.

That's how I did mine. 8-)

Codes 12 & 31 normal for V6 with engine NOT running - crank sensor will not pick up a signal from Stationary engine!
Code 129? - don,t know - thought EGR codes 132 - 134.

Silly question but have you checked that there is feed to the starter motor? (The fiddly wire) I had exactly the same problem and turned out the solenoid had gone. Also, is the EM light flashing or is it permenantly on?

BTW, I'd test the battery regardless. When its on the car and its running, put a voltmeter over the battery terminals. it should read around 14.5v.

I'd say idler first too. Had the same problem on my Camaro. The bushes will accentuate the problem too. The brake suggestion is a good one and not difficult to do, so I'd just do that one straight away.
