Omega General Help / Radiator Question
« on: 19 August 2012, 12:26:29 »
Hi

I need to replace the rad in my 2002 2.6 V6 auto, a lot of sites list them as being all the same or just the 2.5/3.0 are listed even for a 2002 are they all the same rads or do a need a specfic for the 2.6?

Thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / Re: tramlining

I guess thats what they did, steering has a lot more feel and I used to get a small knock through the column that is also gone now. I used an independant garage I have used for years, however one of the mechanics there is ex Vauxhall think he did. I had the rear donuts replaced at the same time and asked them to check the front suspension. It was always pulling to the left or following the camber, after the steering box was 'adjusted' this all but disappeared. When it was checked today at WIM the straight ahead was a tad out but nothing major.

I have had this on my car since I have owned it, which is 2 years changed the 16 to 17in no better, replaced wishbones, idler etc much better but still tramlining. However it was actually caused by play in the steering box, my garage adjusted out the slack and wow what a difference, then another vist to WIM and pretty well perfect. Never thought of the steering box, when the tyres are replaced I will get WIM to redo it at the same time. I have lowered mine with Eibachs and B4's got to say a pleasure to drive at last.

So maybe worth having the steering box checked, not sure how this effects it as I am now mechanic but others on this board maybe able to enlighten.

I see it parked there in that bay when getting home off the train when been working up town, have to be honest have given it a good look over one evening, very nice indeed expecially the sill trim down the sides.

Thanks for this, Manta for me, I owned 3 (the was a 2.0 SR which I wrote off straight after my test) I remember having a 1.8 Berlinetta after the 2.0 litre it had a 5 speed gearbox, lastly I replaced that with the 2.0 GTE, with fuel injection as well as a 5 speed box:-) Always remember the slot for the stereo was too small so it would always stick out. I wore out Madonna True Blue album in it!

They were good days, easy to service and never went wrong drove both for 1000s of miles, I was always a coupe man never a hot hatch, happy days back then, where did it all go wrong with motoring.

Thanks for the memories once again.

We have owned both, had a 2001 1.0 and now have a 1.2 Design, only used around town but out of the two definately the 1.2, reason we got rid of the 1.0 was it had no go whatsoever, my wife was even afraid to pull out on roundabouts due to the lack of pickup, main reason why we sold it.

The 1.2 is an 05 and fine to be honest, looking to replace it next year with the new model but it will be another 1.2 or maybe a 1.4. Nice thing is like most Vauxhalls pretty reliable and when they go wrong not to expensive to put right. Tank of fuel lasts about 3 weeks on stop start, it really is the family workhorse.

O yes Rob they like a drink of the good stuff. Over the winter I changed the rear diff to a S-AYC from a low mileage Evo 8, you can feel the difference in the rear of the car even more marked it just hangs in there, never had more than 2 bars up on the dash and can't remember ever going to full throttle either, great sleeper car. I want to try and keep it for as long as I can, its got no rust to speak of and fully undersealed so fingers crossed its got a few more years, though it needs a cambelt change over the summer and camshaft oil seals so got a bill looming.

I've got the Legnum VR4 2.5 TT (Galant estate), got about 70k miles on it now, owned it 4 years after personally importing it from Japan with only 45k kms on the clock and full history, its never seen snow or salt either I love it, puts a smile on my face everytime I turn the key. Build quality no Audi but well screwed together. Apart from some suspension bits nothing has gone wrong, though the cambelt is very expensive to replace. Goes like stink and still looks great after 15 years in Met Silver.

If its a 2.5 wont be a GDi they were 2.4 or 1.8, though all Mitsy's seem to like a diet of V-Power or Tesco 99.

Question, is it 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive, if 2 wheel drive they had a problem with their drive shafts stripping splines because they were slightly too short, cost a fortune to replace and no warning they will just fail, normally around the 60k mark, 4 wheel drive they are fine.

I purchased an add on dab receiver with a wired FM transmitter which I play through my head unit. It has an input for an aux in which I dont use, my stereo has an SD card slot for my music but it should work well with an IPOD. I purchased it for £26.00 excluding DAB aerial from Dabonwheels the aerial was actually more expensive than the DAB unit, I think now its £29.00 but still a bargain. The clarity is great and the DAB is awesome as well.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Relay removal

Got it out by levering it out with a small flat screw driver. I changed it for the 99 mod for the wiper delay and that works a treat as well all round a good result.

I need to replace a relay under the bonnet by the battery but I can't shift it, am I doing something wrong or being thick? The ones on my Mitsubishi just lift out with very little effort, this one wont move and I dont want to break anything.

The reason for putting in DAB is so I can listen to Planet Rock, got a cheapo add on for £26.00, aerial is costing more than the unit. I have recentlly replaced the head unit with a Blaupunkt so input is going to be by the rear aux in, with the controller hidden away.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Stubby car phone aerial replacement
« on: 01 September 2010, 17:48:29 »
HI

I am replacing the aerial in the roof with a dab one, does anybody know the size of the hole so I ensure I get the right bolt size to go through. Also has anybody else fitted a dab aerial, I have been looking at the JVC HAL 3, Hirshmann and Kinetic antennas all have different through body hole sizes.
