Can't complain at Halfords simply swapping stuff, though they did ask me both times for receipt (which I had taken just in case, so never argued the point).

Also, can't complain at Machine Mart - always just called them up, and a replacement arrives in post within a few days.

I was asked for a recpeit the first time, so I asked to see the manager, along he pops to be greeted by me, 6'6" in overalls and riggers, covered in dirt, weilding a broken braker bar and a few mullered extensions (id been savng them up), he says where is your recpeit so i told him ive had the set years, and pointed to a display saying lifetime guarentee on all halford pro tools, then showed him the 'halfords professional' stamp on the tools in my hand.

He didnt arguee id ive never had a problem since ha :y

I find the advantage down here with halfrauds pro tools is the lifetime guarantee they offer, no quibbles just take it back to store and they swap it, no recepit needed. a friend has a teng set, broke an extension bar, took it back to motor factors, (there is only 1 halfrauds and 1 indipendant motor factors around here) and they had to send it off to teng, took him a month to get a replacement.

I went through 3 halfords breakers bars in a day once, they swaped it every time......... on the 4th visit i also went to motor factors and bought a drapper one, that one didnt break..... :y

Straight pass  (i removed the magic trees before the test (take note TB :) )

Its a joke that an airfreshener can fail your mot.....

The amount of stuff that can be dangerous but isnt covered in the test but can be a real danger is a joke (front balljoints for and example, the offical test is up and down play only, there was a mondeo in for a test a few weeks back, no play up and down on o/s/f wheel, no play in steering etc but shed loads of play front to back, tester couldnt fail it, not even covered on advisories but lucky the owner listened and had it changed

fairy muff (fair enough)

why dont we have a dedicated area for ebay links both for our own stuff or things we happen across?

It's been discussed at length before.
Stick to the rules I'm afraid, no harm as said in posting anything you find though, as long as it's not your's :y

Mick ;)

no probs,  now i know what they are  :y

why dont you guys want an ebay thread tho? other forums im on have one, and when done well can be good. like the sidc one you have to include description and pic not just an ebay link etc (sidc - subaru impreza drivers club)

if everones against it then i guess im flogging a dead horse, just ive always found a section like that help when looking for something instead of trawling fleabay for hours

just a thought

Something like that. ;D Its a long story but I wasn't sure if it would pass on emissions ::)

just seen the thread haha i see you point

try taking a decatted impreza for an mot. you have to have a friendly mot tester.

allowed max co2 or somthing was 0.03 mine was reading 9.2! haha but the im sure petrol used to go staigh from the tank, out the exhaust and down a drain, felt like it on the wallet anyway  :D

Surley you should know if your car is going to pass an mot? appart from maybe hidden corrosion underneath if your not keeping an eye on things throughout the year then your neglecting your car. remember an mot only proves the car was ok at the time it presented for a test not for the next 12 months.  ;)

extened warrantees are a rip off. well they are if you take one out when you buy anything, look up first how long you can expect your item to last, because if ti breaks in that time you can expect the retailer to replace or repair it. then if you really feel the need, take out a warrantee privately after that, not with the retailer or manufacturer. extened warrantees from the retailer are one of the biggest rip offs, most of the time you dont even need them, you are covered by your statutary rights its just money making.

Just to add to this, electrical items sold in the UK have a 2 year warrantee by law,
.

Not quite, see above, as computers are electrical items but are only reasonably expected to last 18 months (12 for a laptop due to harsher life).

103
If you ever get static (pun) from a retailer regarding the return of a faulty electrical item, or they try and say you need to contact the manufacturer or 'you need to phone our help line' then just tell them you know your right as stated in 'the sale of goods act 1979 as amended'

This states that the contract is between the purchaser (you) and the retailer (them) not the manufacturer.

Also the 12month or even 2 year guarantee means squat, items are expected to last a 'reasonable time' but each item does have a time scale set out.  TV’s 2 years. Computer 18 months, washing machine/dishwasher 6 years.

Hope this helps

Sorry but that's wrong, you can tow up to a gtw of 3500kg as long as the mam of the trailer doesn't exceed the unlaiden weight of the car and the total of the car plus trailer doesn't go over 3500kg.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/CaravansTrailersCommercialVehicles/DG_10013073

So if you have a car that is 2000 kg unlaiden and a ttrailer with a mam of 1500kg you're fine.
