Omega General Help / Re: transmission control module
« on: 28 March 2011, 19:41:53 »
the gears seem to be a bit strange as in often when you are for example driving along at 40 then you slightly press throttle nothing happens press a little harder and slight ecceleration press a little more and she drops down 2 gears then races off. or going up a hill when you can feel it needs to be in thrd and she's in fourth. i was told the tcu can be updated with new software which greatly improves the changing of gears i was also told the later models had a tcu with improved software. which i suppose should really have been my original question. is the ar tcu a later model with updated software and will it fit or have i been misled?  :-/

Omega General Help / Re: gear selection
« on: 10 March 2011, 19:40:22 »
if this is of any use had something similar with my car. the lights on the gear selector would flicker a little and sometimes say it was in a gear it wasnt.also gears randomly changing by themself. 4th to 2nd and so on sometimes it was worse than others. the problem with mine was the gear program selector switch located on the front nearside of the auto box. it costs £450 plus fitting from vauxhall and only available from them.{or so they say] i got one from a scrapyard it cost £4 and took half hour to fit. its easy to do and there is a link on here somwhere of how to do it as thats what i used. apparently you can take them appart and clean them as they suffer from water ingestion they get a bit messed up inside. hope this may help you. j

yeah i cleaned that out it was blocked. the pipes have all been replaced so no blocks anywhere. intresting to read maybe a throttle position sensor on the pedal i was under the impression that was the pedal position sensor? or is it classed as the same as it comunicates with the throttle position sensor on the throttle body :o wish i had taken note of fault code when i was at the garage i know this would help. think it said tps signal not present. there were more serious issues but those are now fixed thanks to this site. for anyone interested. flickering gear lights{auto} random gear selecting. answer new gear program selector switch. quoted £450 from vauxhall plus fitting. haynes said you need to drop the auto box to fit it. i got it for £4 from local scrapyard took half hour to fix and align and didnt need to drop box. anyway without incuring more diagnostic costs and with the local scrapyard having a 2.2 auto is it worth me trying the pedal or something else. thanks for all yr help. j
