Have you unplugged the powersounder under the front scuttle?

 :-?
I have not checked the powersounder, although the alarm has not gone off when the battery was dead, so it may have already been removed?

I will check that tomorrow, although the MID now goes off straight away whereas it stayed on constantly before.

Thanks guys, I pulled the fuses and stereo and left it for a couple of days as I was working, came back to the battery completely flat. Re-connected and charged for 3 hrs. It seems like the drain is elsewhere as the MID and radio were off when I left it.

I worked the door switch a few times, it did not seem to be sticking, but it is working as it should (I am not sure if it was before).

It does seem to be cured though, as when I pull the key now from the ignition the MID goes off after a few seconds (even when I am still in the car). I wonder if a complete drain of the battery has reset some of the circuits?
I have not unplugged the ignition switch as suggested, but I wonder if this is the start of the problem.

I will check again tomorrow to see if the battery has drained, if it has I will do the checks with my meter, but hopefully it will be OK from now on!

Plently of other niggles to be getting on with anyway, but nothing that stops the car being used.

Thanks all.

I was wrong, it looks like fuse 12 kills the display and radio amongst other things.

Pulling the radio didn't seems to kill the display as the date etc were still on.

Hopefully with fuse 12 out overnight it may reset. Otherwise it looks like a new display?

Thanks guys, I pulled fuse 6 out and the radio, the display in the dash is still showing the date and time.

I see fuse 20 looks to cover the display etc. Is it worth pulling this fuse as well?

I noticed while at the fusebox fuse 4 seems to be missing which looks like it is for the fan, which is interesting!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Flat battery - MID staying on?
« on: 21 March 2011, 13:17:41 »
Hi all,

The battery on the Omega has gone completely flat overnight, after a charge all is OK but it seems to have started doing this over the last couple of days.

I have noticed that after I lock up the car the MID stays on. Is this normal? I have never noticed but I thought it has switched off in the past.

Do you think this could be draining my battery? I have not done any tests on the current drain as yet, I am waiting for the battery to get a good charge.

I have taken the clocks out and pulled the plug on the MID and reinserted as per the guide, but they still show the date, time etc when the car is off and locked. The radio turns on and off OK.

I will check the battery, but I am sure the MID has something to do with it. Can it be repaired or is it best to swap out for a known working MID?

Cheers

I think you had your collar felt. It's unusual for the sprung tensioner to fail & you can get the tensioner roller seperately for £20-£30 and it takes minutes to fit.  ;)
Just checked my bill to confirm,  it was not that much. The Roller Tensioner was £60.50+vat, belt was £32.30+ VAT plus labour and a bit of coolant. I also had the Cambelt changed at the same time which was reasonable at £225 (for parts & labour) in addition to the aux belt.

As the car was abandoned at the side of the road and they collected it as well, I dont think it was too bad!

Not sure if it is the same as I am not really an expert, but my Omega 2.5 started squealing from the aux belt. Initially it was only every so often, but it got worse when accelerating.

As I only owned the car for a few days I didnt know the history of the belt, but within about 2 miles of the belt squealing almost constantly it snapped. Luckily I was only going slowly at the time.

It had turned out the top pulley had seized and eventually snapped the belt. Luckily no other damage, but it could have a lot worse! The local Vauxhall specialist (PRG in Bedford) fixed it quickly for approx £150 inc parts.

This may not be the issue, but it maybe worth getting it checked out.

Hi, all! Just over a month of owning my Omega and after looking at the forum for help I thought I would sign up.

I bought the Elite as an upgrade to my 2nd car which was an old Astra, I like it so much I may sell my main car and just use the Omega if I can ensure it is reliable!

I am just working through some of the niggles, so will be asking some questions (in the right section hopefully)!

General Car Chat / How much is my Omega worth?
« on: 25 July 2011, 16:29:06 »
Hi all, I am wondering how much my old bus is worth. Not sure I really want to sell or scrap it, but I have too many cars, so I may move the Omega on.

It is a 1999 mini facelift 2.6V6 Elite estate, auto with 113k miles. Stamps in the service book up until I got it in February, so probably is due a service. I had the cambelt done, along with the aux belt and roller/tensioner. It has the cloth trim and is a light gold colour with cream interior.

Most things seem to work, I fixed the early issue I had with battery draining, the central locking all works OK. The drivers heated seat does not work, and it probably needs a couple of rear tyres. I think the HBV may just be starting to leak. Small bit of rust under the rear wiper and the corners of the door bottoms, but nothing too bad.

I have only had it since Feb, but have used it a lot, helping people move stuff as well using it as a mini campervan with a mattress in the back for the Grand Prix weekend!

The tax is due at the end of next month, MOT is due next Feb.

I know it is not worth much, but I am sure it is worth more than just scrap when the tax runs out.

Any ideas? I will get some pics up soon.

The other option is to spend a bit on it and keep using it, I am not a DIY mechanic but maybe I should do the service etc myself.....
