i cant believe im reading this , today my mv6 started running rough and after elimination it turns out no5 isnt firing i changed the lead with no avail , i was confused as i know its wasted spark however from experience on fords i know the zetec wasted spark coils commonly drop no2 . so its a coil pack for me too im afraid .

Omega General Help / Re: possible sticking valve???????

we had a shogun in the garage and the customer was convinced something was broken inside the head and sure enough the exhaust manifold was fractured...sounded like a broken follower...never assume the worst

50/50 mix of ethylene glycol has many advantages over pure water , melting freezing boiling points , but also the pressure is greatly reduced within the system , the flow rate is increased and the weight is reduced ,

this link gives all properties in relation to mix ratio in comparrison to pure water,

hope it helps

anti freeze does raise the boiling point , but its also a corrosion inhibitor , however i wouldn't see an issue short term provided there is no frost .

cheers

hi i double checked the pipe running over the right bank , seems ok again the rocker cover is still bone dry , i pulled the leads out of the road and syphoned the liquid out , which turns out is over a quarter pint of coolant , i blanked off the pipes and hooked up my pressure tester with noresult and no pressure drop , i can't run it to pressurise as plenum in bits .

puzzled

i used a fancy snap on digital hydrometer , if the hoses check out is there any possibility of a crack in the head , im going to try another pressure test .
cheers

im pretty sure i checked that but access to the back of the lump isa bit tricky , what i did notice was when i took the expansion cap off coolant started to stream out the front of the bank and down the main hose but im pretty sure this is just run off , but i also found it strange that the top of the rocker cover is bone dry , you would never know there was water there until you took the leads off , is there any blanking plugs or core plugs on top of the head or between the plugs ,

thanks for the welcome

Omega General Help / coolant in plugholes ! (mv6)
« on: 13 May 2007, 13:06:12 »
hi , im a motor mechanic to trade however my knowledge on the mv6 is limited , yesterday i bought an r reg 3.0 mv6 for £100 as it has a few problems the main one being is the right hand bank isnt firing , i pulled the plenum chamber off and dug my way down to the plug leads, when i pulled the leads off i couldnt see the plugs , the holes were full of coolant , i know the heads and gaskets are good and obviously the water is grounding the ht but what im not sure of is , is where is the coolant coming from and is this common or am i taking the car to the knackers yard .

any ideas appreciated
thanks

p.s. i know its coolant as i tested the anti freeze level and its the same mix as the expansion tank .

Omega General Help / Re: Rough raunning when cold
« on: 14 May 2007, 21:07:18 »
iv'e just checked autodata and the only listed known for your engine is the wiring harness onto the ecu coolant temp sensor , however iv'e rarely seen it happen as i work on these engines quite often , apparently the connection causes an increase in resistance which doesn't provide proper enrichment for cold starting .

hope it helps

Omega General Help / Re: What engine?
« on: 13 May 2007, 22:00:38 »
in my opinion i think your best option is to source a lump from an omega as the cav is transverse and would require all mounts and pulley mounts to be changed also the original block would require extensive thread cleaning where the mounts would go, the sump may not match and .... i dont think it would be worth your while ,
sorry, just my opinion ,others may know different

cheers
