General Car Chat / cdr 500 in an astra turns itself on by itself!!!
« on: 03 November 2011, 21:36:28 »
as it says above realy

aswell as the trusty omega ( well its still cutting out) my wife now has an astra auto (p erg 1.4 16v) i have only owned the vehicle two weeks amd there is one main niggle

if we use turn off the engine, the radio turns off. if we then go back to the car and look through the window for open the car, the radio has decided to turn itself back on

i have heared for the later astra (g) unit doing this and owners having them replaced by vauxhall under warranty.

the cdr500 i have in the car came from ebay with all manuals and codes. it was out of an astra of the same age.

at moment no unit is in the dash so battery wont go flat.

i open the floor to you all :)

thanks

Omega General Help / Re: cutting out when slowing down
« on: 20 October 2011, 22:29:46 »
just driven home and the car has cut out twice. in was a bu**er to start, i think it fired after seven attempts. i have noticed that there seems to be a miss fire when at idle. some thing is telling me to have to original diesel injector pump refitted? (it was not making a noise as thought) i have also noticed it takes a long time to warm up on the dash temp gauge. could that contribute to the running problem.

once again thanks for any surgestions and help

i have been told the engine is bmw. the gaskets for the inlet cost a bomb and were for a bmw. how can i check the engine type.

i will have a good listen tomorrow. only thing i have done is replace the jubile clips around the egr valve as they were not tight (but problem was there before) it must be something to do with the idle as on way to work and back the car has been stalling when slowing down.

i been trying different was of slowing down, changing down gears or just useing the brake. ever dipping the cluch does it when slowing!!!

if it was put on tec2 would that help?

Omega General Help / cutting out when slowing down
« on: 18 October 2011, 20:40:22 »
the problem has only just started. when slowing down in traffic my vehicle simply cuts out. a big problem on roundabouts and turing!! >:(

if i am slowing down and changing gear it happens, or when foot is on the brake it happens. i have noticed the rev counter dips lower than idle then back up only for the car to stall!!

i have cleaned out the egr valve but this has has no efect.

i have just have the car back from having a new diesel injector pump and turbo fitted (both tested and working but used) also a new water pump that was causing a very loud noise!!

so its over to you all once again. some one save me from a very good car than has started to become a pain!

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5 td turbo types
« on: 27 September 2011, 21:20:49 »
thanks for all the help. my car is still awaiting the turbo arriving, but when i am told it is all back together i will let you all know how it has gone. i did have a look at the egr valve / pipe. should there be a gasket between the egr valve and the locking cover (thing bolts go through)?

i have to accept i bought a lemon. by the looks of the car when i saw it stripped down, there was lost of straw and grime on the under tray. i think the prevoius owner knew there was something big wrong with the car. i have a replacement diesel pump fitted and now the turbo. i what i paid for the car and all the work i have done myself + garage, is over what i could ever dream of getting back if i were to sell it :(

when i saw the car my heart bought it not my head. we are expecting child number three in december and it is perfect for us. big boot (pram) 3x proper seat belts in back and for me its the manual + diesel set up.

any way thanks for all the help and will post with the out come.

Omega General Help / Re: Expansion Tank Renewal
« on: 26 September 2011, 20:43:42 »
i need to replace mine for same reason. been quoted £45.00 all in at local dealers for new coolant tank. been looking on ebay and if one comes up, either has no sensor or the sensor fitted is broken. i just clear message off display and carry on. it become second nature to do that now!

i was advised it was the diesel injector pump at fault. codes and noise, but upon fitting a replacement it still has the ticking noise. i have obtained a turbo so am waiting for that to arrive and be fitted. i now have a diesel injector pump going spare so hopefully i can get some costs back from selling the one taken off the car in the first place!!

egr valve will be last straw!

i am starting to loose faith in a good car. all this money into a big pit. i thought buying a car with service history and old mot's gave a good indication of a car mechanical condition, so is seems i am wrong. privious owner must not have given a dam about his vehicle, one more thing to go wrong and it will be a can of petrol and a box of swan vestas!

thanks for the information.

there is not much power from it and oil is passing into the ducting (i am told) egr valve is oiling up and on start up, there is large amounts black smoke out the exhaust.

hi

i have been having my diesel injector pump fitted :) and the mechanic has informed me that the turbo is hanging on for "dear life", :( or did he say daffy duck?

anyway, what i am trying to find out is, are they the same or different across the build years. mine is for a 2000 w reg.

is there a part number or identification plate to look for.

thanks if you can help :)

all the gm wiring conect to a box behind the n/s/r lamp unit. the vehicle wires conect to the box and the box fits the car. all items stamped gm. at the plug socket the wires were simple pushed into small holes and held in place with small screws, as i have alway seen, nothing crimped at the socket? i have replaced with an identical 12n socket as removed, (fog light cut off as well).

14
you are correct. no red white blue yellow etc, colours are black/white or green/black etc. i have coppied all possitions from old to newsocket but have the problems as stated in my first post! i would like to keep the factory kit as it is well fitted and not a bodge job.

15
the unit does not have the normal 7 coloured wires as i am use to. there seems to be more and none with colours i know. all the earth wires are tight but not opened up the socket yet to see inside. have bought a new 12n and 12s.
