Its all happened today....

Im very happy with the guy at the garage..... Vauxhall have stopped making the 3.2 backbox with the crome tailpipes, and are just fitting the standard twin pipe 3.0 one now.... So he says...!

Anyway Vauxhall are supplying an Irmscher back box instead, totally free... Good on em I say....

Hopefully should have this cock up sorted in a couple of weeks when the part turns up.... ;) Thanks for all the response to my ravings guys

Hi,
Does anyone know if the Estate version exhaust system (after the cats) for the 3.0 L is the same as the 3.2 L

Roger

Just replaced the exhaust from cats back on my 3.2 Estate, part numbers were :-

LH Centre 93181160 £69.63

RH Centre 93181163 £78.12

both the above on Trade Club

Tail pipe 93192233 £93.60 (not T/c)

All the part numbers match my invoice for the new exhaust we had fitted to our 3.2 elite but after knowing the back box was wrong, im now thinking the center boxes could be wrong too???

The exhaust rattles and vibrates like its touching the bodywork, so could that be because its been fitted with 3.0 center boxes?? Please can someone tell me how they are different?? I really need to know because its going back to the garage for the back box changing, so need the center ones doing too if wrong.....

Cheers for the reply....

The new exhaust was from cats back.....
Ive heard that the centre boxes are the same but the back box is a different part! Just not sure if its because its got crome tail pipes on it?? Knowing Vauxhall that will be the only difference, but just want to be sure! It might be different because of the 3.2 engine?? Maybe for performance??

Hello all....

My Omega has started to make a very strange noise when its started from cold....

Sounds like a high pitched wizzing noise.... Like the noise you get from a super charger.
After a minute or so it goes off, as if a valve had been closed or summat.....
Its been doing it for a few months now, but seems to be getting louder??
Im guessing its something to do with the choke?? Is it something to worry about??

As said, check that the breather pipe is not hanging down. It should emerge from the top of the box about 2/3rds of the way back and come forwards and up where it is cable tied to the engine breathers behind the plenum.

Best plan is to mop up what you can - try some degreaser / TFR and then gently hose it off in the hope that once it's clean it will be easier to spot any fresh leakage.

Check the fluid cooler lines between the gearbox and radiator are not leaking first. Then have a look underneath with the engine running. I'd say you should be able to spot it dripping if it's leaking at that rate.

Prime suspects are the output shaft seal at the rear or something in the bellhousing - probably torque converter seal, as with Marie's box.

A gearbox change is not too bad if you can get 2 or 3 pairs of hands on it. We had Marie's car up on ramps and the gearbox out in about an hour and a half, IIRC. Perhaps a bit longer to get it in again because we struggled a little with the TC bolts. Do-able in a day though.

A 2nd hand gearbox can be a bit of a lottery. Depends what's wrong with yours and how much you know of the box you're fitting. If it's a simple seal and you're happy that the gearbox is otherwise fine, I'd change it, but as we found with Marie's, it's not always that easy.

Kevin

Thanks so much. I wondered what that pipe was. It just looks wrong, and I was thinking where the hell should it be.... Thankgod for people like you. ;)
