Well some embarrassing red faced feed back feedback

. I got nowhere with the oil sensor (No cleaned) or the ignition switch all working ok so it had to be a wiring fault.
. I got nowhere with the oil sensor (No cleaned) or the ignition switch all working ok so it had to be a wiring fault.
So I studied the Haynes wiring diagram with my magnify glass and noticed that both the oil sensor wiring and the line to/from the AT switch shared the same connecter "X2".
and noticed that both the oil sensor wiring and the line to/from the AT switch shared the same connecter "X2".
So I traced the line from the starter solenoid back thru the engine front wiring trunking and opps the locking ring on one of the round multiplugs just below and NW of the battery had unlocked
the locking ring on one of the round multiplugs just below and NW of the battery had unlocked and the connection had been loose over the last few months and then had finally parted
and the connection had been loose over the last few months and then had finally parted .
.
The only good side for me was I did an oil change in both the AT and the Engine.
Many thanks for all your suggestions anyway

 Opel don't make it easy
Opel don't make it easy   unfortunately while the three posidrive screws securing the cowl to the steering column, are accessible from below, there are also two screws (with trim covers) securing (along with the plastic clips) the two halves of the cowl together at their front directly behind the steering wheel.
