Got my cheappo tech2 this morning, plugged it into the wifes old laptop serial port, and the fault said 'Front passenger seat airbag actuation' This would probably be due to the little plug under the seat - the plug had come off somehow and wires were hanging naked and I presume earthed together - lucky my seats dont have airbags or I imagine the bag would have deployed, but the cheapo tech2 reset it perfectly.
On the plus side aswell, I checked the engine for codes, and 'code 57 - code unknown' came up but reset fine, took it out for a 30 mile drive and checked again, but not a single fault now  :y Not bad for £30 im well happy with it, and the software is english  :) It doesnt have the ability to check solenoid operation or engine temp etc, but it does tell you the faults in text rather than numbers - I unplugged the EGR while it was running and it immediatly came up with 'EGR fail'. So for just clearing warning lights and finding faults, its a diamond  :y

57 - idle air control voltage low

Strange that it picked this code up, I havent seen an eml light for about a month, but on paperclip test back then, it didnt show any codes  :-/ i'll keep my eye on it tho - cheers TB

I suppose being a safety critical thing, I should get it sorted asap rather than try and fool myself and the mot tester....... i'd even bring it up to see TB but the car has a tank of fuel and its gotta last me 2 weeks (very doubtful)
The car has dug a big hole, dumped me in it, and now its trying to bury me alive  ::) If it fails its test im gonna break it, see how the car like being ripped to shreds  :D

Found what could have been the problem, on the passenger side front seat, under the plastic cover on floor near sill, there is the seat electrics, with a small green 2 pin plug with bright yellow casing - well the wires had come out and may have earthed - I think this could be for the side airbag if it was connected, wires shoved back in and secured.....

My wife will murder me if I tell her theres another fault  :'(

Hmm, looks like after reading some posts I need tech2 to reset it - it can wait cos im completly skint from fixing other things on it, what could I have disturbed in the back to upset it though...... as much as I love the car and want to keep it, im waring thin on patience and money.. it just never seems to want to be fixed and the MOT expires in 2 weeks, sorted almost everything for that but now this bloody thing has come up  >:(

Been out messing with the rear seats (well removed the bench seat) to retrieve my sons money that my daughter had 'posted' through the seat belt holes in the bench...... all really simple and easy, put it all back and started the car to goto shops and the airbag light has appeared constantly  :-[ when I turn ignition on, the light goes out, then when engine starts, the light comes back on. It wasnt on this morning when I popped out on school run - did I do something, I didnt notice any wires apart from the heated seat plugs?

After having similar problems a while back, I was advised similar to you, my problem was the front sensor had come off on the front n/s wishbone, it was dirty and when cleaned wouldnt pop back on without coming off a mile down the road..... someone here (cant remember who) said to wrap a laggy band around it to secure it in place.... well im still going strong 800 miles on  ;D heck if the laggy band breaks, just stick another on.. cheaper than a new sensor  :y

This looks like a good item to keep an eye on if you want a good tech2 system :

Taken off ebay, guess he was offered a reasonable amount, and took it.  Hope it was above £2k, as it has a CANdi

If I ever win the lottery I'll get myself one  ;D bet someone has bagged a bargain with that one... I just ordered a crappy one with some "My Naff Code Reader" software, the seller swears it will re-set my airbag light or I can have my money back minus postage so I'll let you all know if its a hit or miss jollopy  ;D

;D ;D I new it would be simple, reason I never worked out that rear courtesy lights is cos it aint got non..... will be scouring fleabay for a set now  ;)
 Cheers The Boy
I think the Police purposely disconnect the stuff.....

There is tons of old cables left in the car from the plod equipment, the rear 'police stop' led board wiring is still there, tho no led board, 2 coaxail leads presumably from their radio stuff, the strobe relay and ecu were still there until I removed em plus loads of 12v feeds dotted all around the car - also, I removed the sunroof blanking plate from the interior (i have no actual sunroof) and there is a black box stuck to the roof by magnet with a wire leading to the front and down the n/s 'a' pillar.... god only knows what that is?

be sure to check whether they're legal for a car no longer owned by the police

How come they would be illegal? its only courtesy lights  :o and the switch is still active?
