Omega General Help / Re: Engine seems to be dumping coolant?
« on: 20 September 2015, 10:51:57 »
Think its the heater matrix. Have had it running for an hour on ramps and there's coolant running into the carpet of the foot well. Only a little trickle but thats that I reckon. Changing the matrix is a major major job isnt it?

If it's actually coming out of that pipe, it's not the HBV. If it's clear water, it's air con condensate, otherwise, I reckon it's probably the heater matrix. :-\

Definitely not the air con Kevin. Did wonder about the heater matrix but the carpets are all dry (I know thats not a definite symptom but it can happen) If it is the heater matrix then it'll be bye bye miggy :(

Just a thought, if I need to replace the HBV I wont get one today so if I run her with the heater on will this stop the leak until I can replace the HBV tomorrow evening after work?

Edit: Deffo coolant as I was topping it up as it was leaking out Rob. Basically it was going in one end and out of the other.

Hi Rob, cheers for the reply.

Did consider if it was the starship enterprise failed. Could this be due to case cracking or the actual HBV failed?

Omega General Help / Engine seems to be dumping coolant?
« on: 20 September 2015, 09:46:05 »
HI all,

Got home yesterday evening and when I went back to the car an hour or so after getting home I noticed a large wet area from underneath the car. Got down to have a look and there was the last remnants of coolant dripping from the underside at the very rear of the engine. It was too late to look any further so have got her up on ramps for a closer this morning. Completely topped up the coolant and left her running on the ramps to reach temp and after a while the dripping started again which soon turned to a steady trickle.

I got down under the car and its not coming from above but instead its coming from  what looks like a breather pipe that's pointing down.

I did manage to get underneath and get a photo but it was bloody difficult due to lack of space but it does show the pipe in question.

As for the location of the pipe. As shown its hard up against the right hand side of the passenger footwell. It is quite rigid and doesnt want to be moved so Im assuming it hasnt come away from anything as it wont move to be replaced?

Got work tomorrow and need to get this sorted today so any advice seriously welcome. :)

Cheers

General Car Chat / Astramax Van Malfuntion Indicator Light on?
« on: 07 April 2015, 08:36:34 »
Mornin all :)

Does anyone know if there is a trick like the pedal trick to diagnose engine management faults? My Astramax vans MIL has just come on all of a sudden however there is no noticeable loss of performance and everything feels as it should. No doubt its on for a reason so I'd like to find out the problem without going to a dealer and getting butt f***ed :y

Cheers

At least you know, and diagnosed it correctly.

It wasn't really going to be anything else though :)

Indeed TB, satisfying to confirm the problem but totally thrown by the lack of noise from the starter.

Now just baffled by the codes the pedal test threw up yesterday but we'll worry about that later :D

Anyway, thanks everyone for all your once more. Its very much appreciated :y

Evening all :)

Just to let you know it turned out to be the starter motor. Checked across the solenoid while my Lad turned the key. No problems that end. Gave the starter a cluck with a wrench while turning the key and hey presto she fired up :y

Strange though as every starter motor ive ever had fail has made all sorts of noises when stuck apart from this one. ???

Sod it, just clutching at straws lads hoping it was going to be a cheap and easy fix :(

I know the battery is fine now, I took the key apart and got a meter on the battery. Its 3v peaking at 3.1 so the battery is definitely fine.

I'll check the voltage on the solenoid in the morning and report back. Hopefully that should give me a better idea of whats going on.............. ::)

Possible breakthrough?

Started this morning, took her for a five mile drive then tried it again after a couple of hours and she wouldnt start.

Did the pedal trick and I'm getting fault codes.

P1612 Immobiliser No Or Wrong Signal Immobiliser
P1613 Immobiliser No Or Wrong Signal Immobiliser
P1614 Wrong Transponder Key Immobiliser
P1614 Immobiliser Wrong Signal Received Immobiliser
P1614 Immobiliser NotProgrammed Immobiliser

Could this be as simple as a dying battery in the key fob?

Also, do not have a spare key to try this theory out.

Key does still have enough juice to unlock/lock the central locking though ???

Not that I don't want to perform the solenoid test, its been said that it should still make some noise even if faulty. In my situ its stone dead quiet, as if someones removed the starter motor.

Morning all,

Thanks everyone for you advice :)

Planning on using the extended weekend to try and sort this ignition issue. Going to have a look at the switch in the barrel as although it looks like I may have a problem with the selector switch it doesn't sound like this is the main problem. As I have never taken an ignition barrel out before are there any guides on OOF about doing this. Ive had a search and cant find one but sometimes forum searches don't always come up with what your looking for. Rather have a guide to follow as I don't want to f*** it up bullying it out when there's bound to be a method for doing this,

Cheers :y

Well the first check is to look for volts on the solenoid feed when the ignition key is turned.

Think this is a garage job now, I wouldnt even know where to begin and thats if I could even get to the solenoid.....

On the plus side I do have a meter ;D

Sticky starter solenoid?

Do you hear any noises at all when you turn the key?

No, no noise whatsoever. No clicking or anything. Its almost as if someone has removed the starter motor. ATM it looks like whatever I do I am going to have to get someone to look at the gear selector switch as I don't have the gear to get under the damn thing and get to it.
