General Car Chat / Re: Car been keyed

I can recommend Scratch-X, it's all in the technique though. If your arm doesn't feel like it did when you were 14 years old and home alone, you're not doing it right ;)

That's why my arms always ache.  :D

Omega General Help / Re: automatic gearbox help.
« on: 02 August 2012, 18:37:29 »
On first start up from cold the gearbox will hold first gear slightly longer than usual to allow the catalytic converter to heat up quicker, this is quite normal, once warmed up the gear change should be smoothe reaching lockup at about 45mph.

First thing to check is the autobox fluid level, being a mig you don't have a dipstick to check the level with. Take your car for a short drive ten minutes or so just to warm up the gearbox oil, then park on level ground and follow the thread in the maintainence section about checking the autobox fluid level, then report your findings back.

What are the symptoms, is the gearbox stuck in limp home mode i.e 3rd gear and no more than 4000 revs, is it cluncking in to gear, is it holding onto the gears longer than usuall.
First thing to do is to check the fluid level, this will at least rule out the most common problem with autoboxes, there is a perfect guide for this in the maintenance section.
The P1700 code just means that the transmission control module has sent a signal to the engine control module to illuminate the mil lamp on the dash board, once the problem has been rectified and the codes cleared the mil will not be illuminated.
P1625 suggests that the engine control relay is malfunctioning, check for signs of corosion on the pins of the relay. If it looks suspect replace the relay with a known good one.(clutching at straws with this one tho).
P0748 is transmission fluid pressure solenoid-wiring, This could be down to low fluid in the gearbox.

From my own experience i'm pretty sure that i had similar codes when i first bought mine although not the P0748 and mine turned out to be a faulty cam sensor.

Clamps are 54mm, any motorist discount store will have them for a couple of quid a clamp

Been there and done that, and the ponies worked out more expensive than the mig.

A better idea would be to not have kids at all.

« on: 08 July 2012, 09:37:14 »
Does it take a bit of starting, either hot or cold, as this could be the egr valve sticking in the open position. Whats it like whilst idling in neutral.

Regards.

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 07 June 2012, 20:32:35 »
New disc's and pads allround, only to now find that i have a blown rear silencer, new one duly ordered from eternal so guess what i'm doing next weekend. ;)

10
Replaced both anti roll bar drop links, althought i had to grind the bolts off both of them 3 hours later i have new links fitted.
On a side note the car now does not seem to tramline as much. New set of discs and pads to fit and a full service within the next 2 weeks, currently doing 1200 miles a month so service schedules are around the 4 month mark.

Omega General Help / Re: HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM

It would seem to be pointing towards the 2/3 shift solenoid.

P0730 wiring fault, shift solenoid or mechanical failure of the box.

« on: 30 March 2012, 07:35:22 »
Same here Vamps, i have a fifty mile round trip to get to work and back, so i have also told my company that if the fuel strike goes ahead and i am unable to get an adequate supply then i to will have to have either unplanned holiday entitlement or unpaid leave, they have been brilliant with there response saying that if the worst comes to the worst then i can have a lend of a company van, because we have our own diesel storage tanks at work (bus depot i work in the engineering dept) and we should be uneffected by the strike.
Top response i thought.

Omega General Help / Re: to change the thermostat or not?
« on: 30 March 2012, 07:01:52 »
might as well as you got to get the water out to do the head. would make sense :y
Sometimes you post good stuff, sometimes you post cack.   :o

Unless I read the original post very very wrongly, you yet again give absolute 'dangle berries' as advice, I'm afraid to say.

OP was asking about rocker gaskets, engine temp fluctuations and whether to change the water pump at the same time as the rocker gaskets.  There was no mention of changing the head or its gasket until you brought it up?  If the rocker gaskets are leaking that is the square root of fek all to do with the temperature fluctuations.

Please read the manual or in this case, RTFP.   :y

Please take more care Rusty.....   :)

OP did not mention anything about the water pump, read the first post "thermostat" he is talking about.
Someone else needs to take more care,  ;D
