Omega General Help / 2.2l exhaust centre boxes
« on: 01 August 2012, 20:34:15 »
Hi, I'm relatively new to Omega ownership and need some info, please.

The MOT is coming up and both centre boxes need changed. The car is a J-reg 2.2l estate.
While looking for the centre sections online I've found that the saloon versions are a bit cheaper than the estate ones.
They seem to have different part numbers, but are they different enough that the saloon ones wouldn't fit the estate at all?

Another problem the car has is the engine management light comes on frequently and it runs rougher/less power than when it's off. If while driving it comes on, I can generally get it to go off if I switch off engine then wait a few seconds, restart engine and it usually goes off. Might take a couple of goes before it goes off. On long journeys it will then stay off and it runs OK, with obvious better fuel consumption. Is this fault solely down to the crank or cam sensors? If so, which is the most likely?
As it might fail the MOT on emissions if the light is on when it is tested, I'd like to fix it if possible.

Finally, how do you get a good, functioning handbrake? My mate, who gave me the car, said for every MOT he had to adjust handbrake up till it was almost binding to get it to pass. I'd like to fix it properly.

Thanks in anticipation. :y

Hi, thought it would be better introduce myself here before I start asking questions.

Picking up my mates '00 facelift 2.2l estate tomorrow, he's giving it to me for nowt. 8)

The 16v in my name is for my never finished rebuild of a 1.8l 16v Corrado.
Never had a Vauxhall before, mainly had VW Golf GTI, Sciroccos with a 3 year spell with an old E30 325i BMW. Started off with Minis looong ago.
My mate was going to give me his old injection Scirocco but I dithered and he gave it to his nephew as he'd just rolled his car.
So I'm getting the Omega, it will be ideal for chucking my MTB in the back, it's like the back of a Transit when seats are folded down.

Think my first question will be the dreaded, intermittent, foot on accelerator but nothing's happening fault that he has described to me, seems like it's a common fault.
