Omega General Help / Re: Drain Hole Passenger Side
« on: 24 July 2007, 14:14:08 »
The foam on the cover below the passenger glovebox also gets soaked - Id remove it and rinse it and dry it out. Having had repeated wet footwells during June's heavy deluges, I completely removed the valve/drainhole cover from the scuttle drainhole, so there is no impediment to any water collected in there from draining out - and no problems since!

Omega General Help / Oil under pressure
« on: 05 July 2007, 22:02:11 »
Omega 2.5 v6 cdx auto saloon about 1998 engine replaced about 2 y ago AFAIK.

I suspect because of blocked breather tubes and probable rocker gasket failure. Hence a build-up of pressure in the oil system, oil leaks, clean dipstick, a little mayo only on the oil filler cap. Runs happily in town as long as the dipstick is not pushed down, releasing the pressure, and oil is not lost.

120 miles on the motorway at 70mph and all the oil is forced out of somewhere underneath with the dipstick in. Dipstick out, town driving and no oil loss. No oil in coolant.

Got us back from B'ham to Worthing (174m) at 50mph max no problem with dipstick out, and just half a tank of petrol used, oil went down from max to min, sprayed out through dipstick pipe, and  the engine compartment is now a little greasy. No loss of power problems, but slightly squidgy brakes under current circumstances.

Looking through your excellent maintenance posts, I think I can handle this myself, unless someone here thinks that a different cause is likely, in which case I would appreciate any comments.

Really need an estate, and have seen one also in need of repair with a sudden coolant loss - HBV problem maybe - any idea of approximate costs to repair?

thanks,

Chris

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi, about to become my wife's mechanic
« on: 05 July 2007, 21:46:29 »
I don't drive  - I fall asleep in moving vehicles, I blame my mother, who pushed me around the park to get me to sleep. Hell, I used to fall asleep on bicycles and a moped! - Not good for a long life on the road.

However, my wife is an excellent chauffeuse, and has had a love affair with her Omega 2.5 v6 cdx saloon for the last year. I am going to have to get my hands dirty, because like all love affairs, the poor car's health has been neglected in favour of good hard rides and now needs some TLC, and I'll continue in the general help area. This seems to be a really friendly site.
