General Car Chat / Vauxhall Heratage centre

I am hoping to visit the heterage centre next year and was wondering if they have any Omegas on show?

I notice they have a VXR and other "new" cars as well as there more historic cars

General Car Chat / Re: BTCC @ Silverstone - 6/7th Oct 2012

last weekend I went to Snetterton for the BTCC and after seeing the odd Bently i began to think my Omega wouldn't look to out of place in the car park at future events?

Fortunatly i will be off to Knockhill for the next round but Silverstone?

The photos look great, i look forward to taking some of my own if the weather improves!
with regard to stone rash, Wilbury of Hitchin have been restoring my 2.5 CD over the past year and the paint work they have done is first class.

General Car Chat / Re: ELITE?
« on: 19 May 2012, 20:49:24 »
The Vauxhall of the nineties was built by a company who seemed to care about every one from driver to passenger they payed attention to details that made the cars a nicer place to be!

It is i think sad that we will not see cars built to the same standard again, like Carlton and Senator before they mark a time when quality and thoughtful design was as important as profit.

General Car Chat / ELITE?
« on: 19 May 2012, 09:11:28 »
When I was growing up Omega Elite was Vauxhalls flag ship model and it seemed to me that regardless of engine spec all the blanking plates were filled with kit, even the 2.5 CD I drive today only has one blanking plate on show (for the rear blind).

I understand there were some limited options for the Elite but why have Vauxhall cheapened its modern flagship?
I was shocked to find my Dads Signim Elite has blanking plates despite being the 3.0CDTI Auto and retracting exterior mirrors were an option at extra cost!
It only has heated front sears, not four, the sat nav is incompetent and more difficult to use than the 2015 unit used in the Omega.

There are from memory no kirb illumination lights on the Signum, it seems that despite its advancing years the Omega Elite set standards way in advance of modern Elite models.

In fairness I am only 31 and have owned the car for four years with a clean license and no convictions, the car is garaged in a nice area and the quote is nearly half what am used too for the meg. That said this seems to be the first insurance company to listen to me!

She really does struggle for a thousand miles a year and is undergoing an extensive Restoration through Wilbury MOT & Service Center Hitchin every summer to return her to showroom condition after 12 years and 113000 miles in the family.

I took delivery of my 2000 model year Omega CD four years or so ago thanks to my Dad, Since taking delivery she has been very much a secound car covering 500-1500 miles a year only comming out on warm sunny summer days.
Given the limmited millage and ongoing restoration I was pleased to get an insurance quote of under £300 despite the car falling well short of the 25 year "classic" status from Peter Best insurance meaning I can continue to enjoy my weekend play thing.

I don't recall the 100,000 but the lady is semi retired now with 113,000 miles on the clock and pleasingly seems showroom fresh thanks to ongoing restoration!

I have to say I have a similar expiriance, the Omega i inherited had scrapes on both sides of the front bumper thanks to my Dads Stevie Wonder style parking.

Thankfully we have a family friend in the trade and he kindly sorted this and the rust on the front wings in one go.

Hi,

My interest in the Vauxhall Omega began with its launch in 1993, developed further in April 2001 with the Delivery of my Dads Omega 2.5 CD, a car i have inherited and continue to restore with the help of Underwoods Vauxhall and Wilbury Body shop Hitchin.
