Omega General Help / Re: Air intake sensor
« on: 29 March 2014, 17:05:32 »
Cheers for that, found it straight away ! Plug it back in and nowit looks like the MAF sensor has died on me. Start the engine up and it coughs and splutters, the revs drop right down and if you rev it, it backfires and then stalls. Did a paperclip test and got code 73 (MAF low voltage). If you unplug the sensor it runs fine, although the EML flashes. Just what I need with the MOT due Monday !

Omega General Help / Air intake sensor
« on: 27 March 2014, 16:45:31 »
I finally got round to putting the car back together after changing the alternator, put the bagpipes back, connected up the MAF sensor, the sensor at the rear of the multiram, but can't find the air intake sensor. Does anyone know where its connected to so that I can trace it back and reconnect it. Just to be clear, I know where it needs to go but I can't see the lead with connector on anywhere in the semi-gloom that passes for daylight at the moment. Any help would be appreciated.

Omega General Help / Fat fingered clown
« on: 16 November 2013, 15:26:58 »
It's just taken me 3 hours to remove the alternator -not to replace it mind you, just to remove the knackered one. Either  I've reached new depths of ineptitude, or the boys on the Vauxhall assembly line have a near pathalogical hatered of anyone who might dare to look under the bonnet. They seem to have taken great delight in restricting access to anything that might be even remotley serviceable. Anyone got any plasters? My knuckles look like I've done a couple of rounds with one of those caged gorillas from the UFC.

Omega General Help / Re: Missfire - failed MOT (2000 3.0 Elite)
« on: 27 November 2012, 14:00:54 »
Thanks for all the responses, I did the spark test again in the dark and this time I noticed that number 1 lead was considerably dimmer than the rest. I took the drivers side off ( 1, 3, 5) intending to check the resistance, but once I'd got them off the car I found the number 1 lead was loose inside the rubber boot that connects to the spark plug - it wouldn't come all the way out but definitely wasn't connected properly, hence the missfire and rough running. Just put a new set of leads on from Euro Car Parts (only £35 delivered) and everything seems to be running smooth again. Just a quick question regarding the EGR - is it worth blanking and how does it effect emmissions for the MOT ?

Regards, Nigel

Omega General Help / Missfire - failed MOT (2000 3.0 Elite)
« on: 20 November 2012, 11:38:34 »
Hello all, sorry I haven't posted since I joined - I've been busy looking for work! Well the Omega has just failed it's MOT on emissions (excessive carbon monoxide content), on the advisory it stated the engine appears to have a missfire and it did seem quite rough when driving back home and was definitley down on power. Did the paperclip test - no codes. Checked all the plugs - 1, 3 and 5 had very small amounts of oil in them so I suspect the gasket is starting to fail. Put new plugs in and cleaned the HT boots as well - no cracking or any signs of damage. Cranked her over but she's still running rough. Checked for spark on all the leads and they're fine. The Dis pack was changed just before I bought it (less than 6 months ago), but I checked just to make sure - it's clean, dry, no signs of any damage and looks brand new (plus if it was failing I wouldn't expect see spark on all the HT leads). So now I'm at a bit of loss, any ideas on what else to check?

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello from Colchester
« on: 09 April 2012, 19:37:04 »
Hi, My names Nigel and I've just joined the forum having just bought a 2000 facelift Omega 3.0 Elite. I live in Colchester and used to run my own valeting business, so I dare say that I'll be posting some how to articles over the next couple of weeks just to show what can be achieved with a little bit of effort (don't worry I'm not completley anal about cleaning or have some form of OCD). I'm also available if you have any questions about which products or what equipment you should use (or not use) when cleaning your car.

Yep, that was my first thought - both the MAF and the ICV have been changed recently and it idles very smoothly and drives ok, no jerkiness, no coughing and the revs stay even. It will just cut out suddenly when the ECU/immobliser light comes on and the power dies. Leave it to cool for 10 minutes and it'll start up again. Does anyone know what the voltage across the crank sensor is, so I can check first rather than just replace it blind.

Damn it ! I wish I'd have checked here first, I'd just picked up my new Omega from the other side of Ipswich on Saturday - took nearly 3 hours to get home as it kept cutting out on me as I was driving along. I actually broke down right next to the Crown - if I'd known you guys were there I would have popped in for some emotional support!
