Omega General Help / Re: Omega Auto gearbox.

Great advice re hinge pins, will have a go at weekend,  The box according to the garage had water in the oil which they could not account for as its not connected to a water cooled system, Have covered another hundred miles since refill and filter change no sign of a problem, fingers crossed.
Thank you all for your help.

Eric.

I had a look at the cover today and I think it might cut through with a Stanley knife and if hard plastic backed a carefully used heated knife. so that the middle piece can be removed leaving two outside pieces which I hope have the hinges on them to flap down. I just hope the cover is not hinged all the way across. It's the sort of thing you open from time to time but not take much  notice of.

Thanks for all the advice, unfortunately the physical restriction I have causing me to use hand controls no longer permits me to diy under the car, so the car goes in for Auto box service this Wednesday. Just got to grin and bear it although it does my pension no good. The garage spoke of testing for memory faults and that causes another problem.  The hand control to pedal rods will not allow the cover to be pulled down not even to access the fuses. The hand controls need removing.  obviously the hand control company say that only a hand control fitter should carry out this work as they have special tools for refitting and final adjustment. If anyone has any thoughts on removing the hinges of the cover without actually fully lowering the cover I would appreciate the advice. The cover will I think drop by 25mm and then I hope pull out sideways. At which point it might take a modification or just throw it away?

My hand book definitely states no increase in revs to hold car on incline but most people I speak to do.  I will give it a go just holding wheel with thumb to let off hand break.  As far as I can gather from an ex Vauxhall mechanic the autobox needs attention every 80,000. i.e oil, filter, electronics and tension? The only reference to it in the service record book is a small one liner *in extreme situations service every 40 -60,000.   I thought the auto box was for the life of the car affair. Mine has 114,000 on the clock and never been looked at?

Thanks to everyone who gave advice and suggestions on the stiffness of hand controls some 9 months ago , the problem disappeared  over the period of time as my hand grew stronger gripping the hand control. I now have another problem, when in stationary traffic on a hill to stop the car running back and remain stationary I have to feather the hand accelerator i.e increase engine speed. The hand book states this is taboo and the hand brake should be applied to stop roll back.  If I apply the hand control brake by pressing down by the time I let it off and pull up on the same lever to move forward no matter how quick I am the car moves backwards. If I use the cars parking hand brake I can hold it and release gradually to accelerate with the hand control but then I have no hands on the steering wheel.

Yesterday I was in this situation on a steep hill holding the car stationary with increased engine speed, no brakes on, but when I moved forward the engine just roared and I rolled back and a brake had to be applied very quickly I was lucky nothing behind me.  I had no drive forwards or reverse. RAC called out who flat bedded the car home. This morning I tried the car on my drive which is uphill and all appears to be OK. Has anyone any advice they can give me please? I had no warning lights come on and will probably need to drive the car to my repair garage a few miles away, or auto gearbox specialist 20 miles away.

Omega General Help / Re: Omega Throttle Return Spring
« on: 30 September 2016, 06:41:15 »
Thank you all for the replies and suggestions.
The car drives perfectly when driven with the foot pedal, and is no problem to drive at steady speed or changing speed with hand control, its just the initial pull upwards of the hand control to get the car rolling smoothly without lurching forward that is the problem. The specialist fitters have checked the system and can find nothing wrong with the hand control. They have agreed that the pressure on the pedal arm is greater by hand than the pressure applied by foot if the linkage by hand was direct to the pedal arm, but the design of the hand control compensates for this. They have politely suggested it could be the lack of strength or control of my hand that is the problem. However I did take a physical and driving assessment in a small car with hand controls before I had my hand controls fitted and had no trouble at all. I think I will have to use the services of a garage to check the car out.

Omega General Help / Omega Throttle Return Spring
« on: 28 September 2016, 08:54:31 »
Time marches on and I am desperate to keep on driving my omega, I have for medical reasons had the car fitted with mechanical hand controls.  The accelerator pedal has been converted to flip up when I drive and down again for normal use. Trouble is the hand control is fitted close to the pedal pivot pin and needs a lot of pressure to get going smoothly. I have thought of installing a lighter return spring which would help me but not sure what effect it would have on the car or on other drivers.

Not that I know where the return spring is as yet and I can't afford electronic contraptions. Any suggestions at all would be appreciated except give up driving :-[

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Parrot fitting

Everything turned out simple in the end thanks to comments by Parrot Tech.  Just attach SOT109 to adapter above the glove department, plug parrot into other end of SOT Harness, you cant make mistakes as everything is keyed. The yellow fly lead from the SOT harness which is the mute wire from radio and can be proven by attaching a test bulb to it and grounding is attached to the yellow with silver tracer fly lead coming out of the black parrot box connecter, and hey presto it works. Mute wires labelled 123 and all the spare connectors are not used.

Found a bit of time today to remove the radio and tin can, the only thing that is attached to the radio is a one piece blue coloured plug of three sections. I was expecting to see this piggy backed onto a TM plug and harness, but it goes straight into the radio.  I presume therefore that no TM harness is fitted.  Where do I go from here to mute the  radio and receive incoming calls. I suppose it's worth contacting Parrot.

Thanks guys. So I can just chuck the saab lead away, one problem solved.  Is it definite there will be a TM loom fitted, when there is no switch, or is it a possibility. The original owner tells me there was no switch from new, he did not want the TM option.

I have just been asked re a parrot problem if have traffic master fitted. As your items are very close to where the traffic master switch normally is could the small speaker and leads be part of the traffic master kit either disconnected or installed in the car ready for connection or maybe part of a hands free system.

The place where the traffic master switch should be is just a blanking plate, so I assume no traffic master.

Everything is a help RobG, but in this case not, I found further references from this lead and followed the discussions, which lead to other sites and more uncertain info. The Situation at the moment is I have installed the Ck3100,following all advice including checking for permanent and ign switched supply.  The CK3100 allows calls to be made using directory, and the recipient can hear me, but I cannot hear the recipient. The CCR 2006 HU which is without additional amplifier and speakers does not mute. Unless I have misunderstood Parrot they indicate there is no need to connect the mute wire as the blue box does the muting but it is not muting in this instant. So my query is do I connect the mute wire or not and if I do connect where do I connect to.  I have a yellow wire with grey tracer male bullet end coming from the parrot loom with black box, mutes 1,2,3, female bullets which parrot tells me are only suggested muting points coming from the loom with the fused power leads, Parrot also tells me to be careful how I connect these leads as I could kill the parrot or destroy the car which is the opposite of don't connect parrot does the muting and finally another yellow wire with a crimp end in the sot lead.  There is one other short small harness made from a shrink sleeved component and two wires coming out of each end, Autoleads instruction booklet makes no mention of this lead at all.  HELP.

General Discussion Area / cooker
« on: 12 June 2012, 06:58:44 »
Got this 240v hotpoint cooker mod fitted in the boot for picnics ???;) Problem is the element needs replacing which is simple enough, but the rigid insulation covers which are like a plastic tube about an inch long covering the wire to element terminal connection  have gone brittle and crumbled away. Unfortunately Hotpoint don't supply the insulation covers as a spare and can give no suggestions. Does any one know of any high temperature tubing I could use as a replacement. Have thought of high temp insulation tape if there is such a thing, or wrapping the terminals in glass cloth. I am sure there are omega owning cooker engineers on this forum that could come up with a suggestion or two.
