Looking at your list it won't pass...

Uneven tyre wear means knackered wishbone bushes, which in turn is likely a failure, even more so if the tyres are borderline.
Cam cover leaks will cause misfire issues (if they haven't already) which will kill the emissions.
Running the engine with mayonnaise instead of coolant will cook it in pretty short order, so it might not get to the MoT place. And from experience, MoT testers take a pretty dim view of fluids pouring off an engine during the test ::)

If you like the car, and have the space, then SORN it when the tax runs out, and start collecting parts :y

Everything on the list is fixable, and most of it should be viewed as long term service items... but your car seems to have had almost all the common Omega issues happen all at once. Start with the oil cooler then work down the engine to the suspension

Oh balls. I do hate it when people come on here and talk complete sense.. >:(

The evil side of me wants to tidy it up, flush the oil out best I can and sell it to a 'Best price M8' mug on gumtree  ;D

Monaro  :)

No, Jeep Grand Cherry 4.7. It's very tempting as if we get snow or floods where I live, we're knackered.

I'll price up all the work on the Mig and see from there. Doesn't help that it's MOT & tax time too! I'm happy it'll pass no issues though.
Decisions decisions.

£1k, be lucky to get that  ;D

These old barges cost more to run than they are worth, however they are damn site cheaper and more comfy than modern cars

I know - I'm trying to be optimistic as valuing it lower in my mind makes it even less worth while doing the work. Especially when I've been offered a very good deal on a V8...

Following on from this - http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=124906.0

I haven't managed to fix the HBV yet so am checking the header tank daily. I check this morning and it's gunked full of oil. That'll be the oil cooler knackered.

Also noticed the cam covers are weeping, and also know my thermostat is stuck open.

Need a 4 wheel alignment as she's tramlining and got uneven tyre wear.

And the gearbox needs a fluid flush as it's occasionally flaring and doing some odd things.

FFS! I'm beginning to wonder if it's all worth it on a £1k car.

Just needed to get that off my chest!

No, and it's dropped more coolant today.

Looks like the spanners are coming out at the weekend!

Boy you were lucky to find that so quick.

Nothing like an intermittent electrical fault to ruin your week.

You're not wrong! A minor wiring issue had my old Tddi Mk3 Mondeo off the road for 9 months.

The moment of elation when you find the problem and fix it was boarder line orgasmic though  ;D

Quick update, I went out to have a look, fired it up and the check coolant message came up. Checked the header tank and it's lost about an inch of coolant - so that answers the question. I had a poke about the hoses and the rad and all seems well. I've topped it up and done about 50 miles, no further leaks or fluid loss.

What would cause a temporary coolant loss? I would have thought hoses & rad would be consistant if holed, water pump would surely carry on loosing fluid if it was dying. It doesn't help that I couldn't see any moisture or obvious signs in or under the engine bay.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the replies Gents, the guide is very useful. Josh, thanks for the offer, hopefully it'll be sorted by then!

Having read the guide the optimist in me is hoping the sump plug is loose and that's the cause!

On Friday when I left work, as I pulled out the gearbox did a minor flare between 1st and 2nd. Didn't think much of it as the cars been faultless, and put it down to a minor software brainfart.

I've gone out this morning and noticed some fluid under the car. It's a red, oil based, thin liquid. I'd say judging by the stain upto half a pint. It still drives fine.

Has my car shat some gearbox oil? And if so, what's the likely cause/source. If it has, as a temporary safeguard can I top it up or is it a sealed for life box and impending wallet rapage?
Cheers

Omega General Help / Re: Door handle not working

Remove door card. Attached to the handle is an actuating rod that sits in the "knuckle" arrowed red. Make sure it`s in secure

That's brilliant, thank you. WD40 squirted through from outside seems to have sorted it for now back to its previous working right at the end of its travel.
I didn't have time to mess around taking the door card off tonight, but will have to take the plunge in the weekend.

I should add, it opens fine from inside, so happy the lock itself is fine, it something to do with the exterior handle connection/mechanism.

Omega General Help / Door handle not working
« on: 24 June 2014, 19:47:51 »
Has anyone got a fix for a drivers door outside handle stopped working.

Admittedly it's been one of those niggly things I've been meaning to look at - for ages it didn't open until right at the end of the movement of the handle and I knew it was on its way out. Tonight it's stopped working all together.

It's a 52 plated saloon.

Is it a reasonably quick fix with something that needs clipping back on, or is it more likely to be something broken?

Thanks in advance.

That'll be a Force specific restriction, the legislation merely gives an exemption, and it's upto the driver to justify how fast they go. Different Forces have different policy guidance for their drivers.

One beef I have at the moment is plod breaking the law, without blues and twos on.

Dual carriageway, I was doing 75/80 ish. Plod branded car over takes me, doing around 90 without any blues on. It was a late afternoon empty roads, no one had passed me for a while, so clearly not tailing anyone.

Omega General Help / Re: Recommended tyres.
« on: 11 April 2014, 20:47:42 »
For the MOT yesterday I had 2 Hero Milanza HZ1 's fitted to the front................ I was told by the garage they were a good mid brand tyre ?  :)

how much each?
i buy on price, and if that upsets people "face bovered" when driving if it feels wrong on cheaper tyres slow down, its a public road not a race track,...
To put that in perspective, the Mig I've bought has four Pirelli P7's on it. Generally they seem to come in at ~£120 a corner..... They're shite. The tramlining is borderline dangerous, dry grip is good, but most tyres mid range up are nowadays, wet grip is average, and feedback is pants. If I'd have spent the think end of £500 on them I'd be fuming. They've got 6mm of tread on too so not towards the end of their life.

Migs are very tyre fussy. I'd go on recommendation from other Mig owners, ignore the budget, mid, and premium 'tags'.
