New question rather than start a new thread -

I put my new Cd player (Blaupunkt) in the omega, and even when I turn the power off the cd unit, it's background lights stay on. I have swapped the yellow and red lights over completely, and its exactly the same.
Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Re: Going faster without spending much?

Cheers for the advice. It's a manual. Running on the MV6 wheels, think they are 17s? I'm heading up earling on Saturday, its a late night one, so 9am to 9pm if you want to come down give me a shout!

Omega General Help / Going faster without spending much?
« on: 22 February 2011, 23:17:21 »
I'm heading up to Santa Pod on Saturday with a few mates, we're all going to do some RWYB on the 1/4 mile.

After a bit of banter, it seems alot of our cars on paper are fairly evenly matched. My current car is 3.0 MV6 Omega. The guy I want to beat the most has a 3.2 Vectra. On paper, the Vectra has 1 extra horsey and about 200kg less....and I keep seeing on facebook interior behing removed Laughing This just got serious!

Today I fitted some ported thorttle bodies, which I thought would make no difference atall, but I am suprised at the little extra poke it has, especially in the midrange.

Now, what else can I do to help without spending much? I may if I get bored pull out all my rear interior (I never use it anyway) and take out the spare tyre etc. I can give the air filter a dust down, maybe get a new one? Would a race filter add anything worthwhile?

Any advice or ideas welcome! I'm determined to beat him! I'm hoping my RWD may give me the edge!

The throttle position sensor sounds a good idea, I'll swap them over. Otherwise, is there a way to manually adjust the idle? Do the throttle bodies have a gasket or anything to the plenum? Maybe it's not sealing there?

Omega General Help / MV6 Idling Higer after ported throttle bodies?
« on: 22 February 2011, 18:03:30 »
Hi all, fitted some ported throttle bodies which I bought a few years ago, for an older MV6 I had. I'm heading up to Santa Pod this weekend, to have a race between a friend who has a 3.2 Vectra....so I think I'm going to need all the power I can get.

The car definately feels better to drive, but it's now idling like it's on constant choke, around 2k rpm. Earlier, when I gave it alot of throttle in 2nd/3rd it sort of lost power for a few seconds, as though the TC kicked in (I had it switched off at that moment). It seems to have stopped this now though! The butterflys definately closed fully, and are definately returning. The only thing I noticed, is the throttle bodies I took off, had a black cover over where the cable ball joint meets and the cable was 'ontop' of the unit if that makes sense? The one I replaced it with, is the other way round, it pulls it from the bottom. I don't know if this makes sense, I can try and get pics if it would help! Any advice or tips would be great! Cheers!

Omega General Help / Having trouble deciding what to buy...
« on: 12 October 2010, 21:07:13 »
Basically, I want a 3.0l manual, not bothered if its old shape or new shape, would probably use it for occasional trackdays and general mucking about in.

I've only just realised that there is a large difference between the MV6 and the Elite, so I'm having to narrow down my choice even further to a MV6.

So, I now need, a 3.0l, Manual, MV6 Saloon.

Theres a really nice one on autotrader, standard, facelift for £1300, which is apparently show room condition.

I have had an offer accepted on this -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110594575005&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

At £1600.

Problem is, looking around, it seems fairly expensive for what it is. The owner has sent me a few extra pics, and although it doesn't have much, there is a bit of rust beginning to show.

What do you guys think, too expensive? It's a 100mile journey each way, so probably £100 more in travelling!

The cheaper one unfortunately isn't answering his phone  :-[

Omega General Help / Traction Control switch on facelift?
« on: 12 October 2010, 19:26:58 »
I've previously owned a pre-face lift MV6, and am currently looking at getting a 2001 3.0 elite manual.
I would be looking to abuse the poor thing, and would be wishing to turn the TC off.....does the facelift model still have the on/off switch for this?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I can only think of two possibilities - one the fuel pump maybe failing or the cat on the exhaust is blocked and not allowing gases to flow properly - if the engine fails when accelerated or put under load it sounds like fuel starvation.....

Just my two penneth....

Chris

Have chacked fuel pump, it is working fine.

Also, found some wires dangling around that were coming out of the Air mass meter and have cable tied them to the inlet so they can't move.

Omega General Help / Engine looses Power, very strange problem! MV6
« on: 16 November 2007, 12:35:50 »
Hey,
My omega started acting up about 2 months ago, when I would put my foot down, the engine would slow me down, and bring the car to a stop, loosing all power. After this had happened, the engine would start, but then would die (so I thought a possible immobiliser fault) I would get the check engine light when this happened only sometimes. If I then waited about half an hour, the car would be fine again, provided I didn't push it very hard.

I left the car for a week or so and it seemed fine again for about a month, but then the problem came back. Then, after getting it back home, it has had no problem again.

I've got it plugged in, and it's saying there is a problem with the air mass meter, but understand this may not be the problem, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello (again!)
« on: 21 October 2010, 19:50:26 »
Just thought I would re-introduce myself! I used to have a MV6 a few years ago and was a member here, but due to the job at the time no longer needed it.

3 years later....I have one again! It's an MV6 again, but it's not (as far as I'm aware) been a police car, as the interior has alot more gadgets! Drives really nicely, previous owner had alot of the major work done within the last year so wants for nothing really!

I have some ported throttle bodies which I dug out earlier which I'll fit soon, and am on the look out for a LSD!

I will give it a good clean and get some more pictures up soon!

20 years old + 3.0l MV6 = Nice insurance premium  :'(

How much is that costing??

A very warm welcome by the way :y :y

Well, it's actually quite strange, I had a 2.0ltr 8v Calibra, which looked really nice, but was a bit slow. Found this 3.0ltr Omega (always wanted one - Big engine + RWD = Big fun) and was shocked to find it's the EXACT same price as my 115 BHP Calibra.

So i did the math - 210 BHP compared to 115 BHP with no difference in insurance.

Wasn't a hard choice.

The missus ain't too keen on it, especially when  I bought it, but even she has admitted it's growing on her. Lovely cars, luxury, speed, and style.

Far far better than the little hatchbacks (never liked them - been a big car man my whole (short) life)

Cheers for comments guys.

P.s I pay £900 for TPFT a year - that's with no NCB, but have my first year coming round soon!

Hey guys, just bought my baby yesterday, will have pics up ASAP. Managed to get a 1996, ex-police MV6, in reasonable condition, for under £600, so think i did quite well!

Have a few plans for her, priority being - installing new speakers inside, stiffer/lower springs, exhaust system. Will be covering her in some big old stickers, not sure what yet, will speak to guy the guy who makes them to see what we can do.

How well do the 3.0 like air filters, or are they like most vauxhalls - and don't like them?

I am 20 year's old, and live JUST north of London, and will be looking to come to any meets if they are not too far away!
