I take your points on board and i'm certainly no expert when it comes to fluid mechanics but I do know that vegetable oil has far better lubricity properties than diesel. It also has a higher calorific value than diesel meaning more energy is produced per given molecule. My oil is used once from a reputable source so is very clean (I filter down to one micron anyway) then it is mixed with 20% regular unleaded. Yes that will lower the cetane rating but it is a trade off to achieve correct viscosity and good burn characteristics. The only issue I can foresee with using vege is the possible stress on the lift pump and also the seals in the inj pump itself due to the rather high temperature these particular pumps operate at (that would apply to regular diesel aswell obviously).
I'm not trying to ram my use of alternative fuels down anybody's throat here and I do appreciate it can split opinion quite vigorously but I the sort of person that doesn't enter into these sorts of things with my eyes closed; I have carried out a fair bit of research on the subject. I'll keep everybody posted as I go along
