Omega General Help / Re: facelift 2.5td rear susp
« on: 02 June 2013, 01:41:30 »
I take your points on board and i'm certainly no expert when it comes to fluid mechanics but I do know that vegetable oil has far better lubricity properties than diesel. It also has a higher calorific value than diesel meaning more energy is produced per given molecule. My oil is used once from a reputable source so is very clean (I filter down to one micron anyway) then it is mixed with 20% regular unleaded. Yes that will lower the cetane rating but it is a trade off to achieve correct viscosity and good burn characteristics. The only issue I can foresee with using vege is the possible stress on the lift pump and also the seals in the inj pump itself due to the rather high temperature these particular pumps operate at (that would apply to regular diesel aswell obviously).

I'm not trying to ram my use of alternative fuels down anybody's throat here and I do appreciate it can split opinion quite vigorously but I the sort of person that doesn't enter into these sorts of things with my eyes closed; I have carried out a fair bit of research on the subject. I'll keep everybody posted as I go along :)

I reckon it'll be just fine, it's a blend of around 50% diesel, 40% veg and 10% unleaded. Filtered to 1 micron slooooowly through coffee filters - it's lovely stuff.
Running on veggie seems to provoke mixed reactions, the idea not seeming to sit well with all. We pays our money and takes our choice in life, i would rather spend the spare cash on my daughter :)

Omega General Help / facelift 2.5td rear susp
« on: 29 May 2013, 16:12:15 »
Hi all, had my 2.5td Elite for a couple of weeks now and really starting to enjoy it. The only thing is the rear suspension seems to be very 'crashy'. Does this model have self levelling dampers on the rear? It seems to sit quite high and when travelling over uneven or rutted surfaces especially it crashes away at the rear like a good'un! It's just been given a new MOT (not my choice of tester - motor trader special ::)) Can anyone give me some advice on what it might be?

Cheers
DERV

ps just got through my first 20litre batch of filtered blended WVO this week, running like a champ.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Trim under headlight
« on: 26 May 2013, 23:07:55 »
Hi everybody,

Long shot I know but is anybody breaking a facelift Omega in Graphite II Mica? I need the trim that runs under the O/S headlight and it will save me spraying it.

Thanks,
DERV

That would be great thanks :)

I was out for a drive in it this eve, it really is comically slow. In third gear on to a slip road, foot flat to the floor it takes around 30seconds to get to 60mph. It can't be in that bad a state of health as it's doing around 39mpg ave. I reckon if it wasn't driving the armada of fans that run under the bonnet under acceleration it would save a few ponies ::)

I blanked off the egr with a 10p piece which fitted perfectly and also experimented running with an empty airbox. It did feel a little different but I still have trouble out-running the oap's in my village on their scooters.

I'm going to look at this pragmatically because I am sure that an engine with BMW DNA running through it can be made to perform a little better than this! watch this space!

Ahhh...that's a shame :( Oh well i'll try the paperclip trick - does anybody know how to do this?

The car is a manual so no issues around torque numbers  :y

Just did a trip to Reading and back this morn from Southampton (not hanging around) got 40.8 ave on the obc which i though wasn't too bad seeing as I haven't even serviced yet (did top up with 10/40 synth before I went)

Omega General Help / Newbie questions

Hey peoples
Just become the proud owner of a V plate 2.5td elite. It's a lovely old thing, a manual aswell, and in very good condition overall. I've got a couple of quick questions;

Having never even owned a Vauxhall before, firstly where is the OBD port on these, I've got a cheapo OBD2 reader off the bay and want to see if it will talk to it.

I am also looking to blank off the EGR pipe from the crankcase, is there a guide on here how to do it?

Thirdly does anybody have any good advice on what the best chip would be to use with this engine, it's ok on boost but as you all know a little dicey when overtaking on an incline etc.

It's a curious pearlescent purply blue grey colour - does anybody know the name?? I'll get some piccies up later

Cheers for now,

DERV
