I never realised that there were 2 switches.  In my defence, the original switch was in place when Fuse18 turned the cruise on, I assumed I was getting like for like but for sure I shall be asking the question and find out what was supplied (number 2 son connected it up).  Also, I noticed when I fitted it to the bracket, there were 2 holes which it could be fitted into.  The top one lined up with a built up area on the pedal, the bottom didnt.  Number 2 son could not remember which it was fitted too, mainly because it fell off in his hands (did I ever mention the previous owners did all sorts of cruel thinsg to her ?).  I fitted it into the top one as this seemed the most logical.  Thanks for the asdvice, I shall return with the answers.

Its been over 18months since I last posted (sounds like an AA introduction).  During that time the family Omega Z22XE has clocked up 192000 miles and is still going strong.  Its serviced twice a year irrespective of the mileage.  Drives great with only a few minor rattles.  During that time we have replaced pretty much all the cock ups the previous owners had made to it (how about a diesel exhaust for starters !).  However, now here's the question.  It's just passed its MOT and within a week the brake lights quit.  I chased all the wires and it was down to the switch behind the pedal.  Fitted a new one (see, I spare no expense) and got the lights back up and running.  Incidentally, during the time the brake light switch packed up, the boot warning light stayed on, still not figured that one out yet.  Now then, the $64000 question (at last you all say) since the switch replacement, my cruise control stopped working.  As you may recall this was sorted by Fuse18 a while back and it became the cars best feature.  I appreciate the cruise and the brake are mutually dependant but I am at a loss as to why its stopped.  Is there a trick to fitting the brake light switch, I assumed it was almost plug and play apart from the gymnastics involved in fitting it.  Any ideas as to what's going on are more than welcomed.

I did say I would let the forum know how we got on with fitting cruise control to our 2.2CD.  Fuse 18 kindly offered to help out.  After a full diagnosis check of the car he installed a number of minor updates to what seemed just about everything (its an old high mileage car that may never have seen a dealer) from the the radio to the air con to name only 2,  together with a massive update to the auto box ECU from software version 1 to version 10 !  The car was already good but the changes are dramatic, the drive back home was a revelation.  My son drove it to work today and could not believe the difference !  Did I mention the cruise control ?  Well, despite the main dealer saying it could not be installed on the CD Omega B, he did it in a matter of minutes, I stood and watched with my 2 sons (both Omega B owners) and there were no smoke or mirrors involved, just a great knowledge of the Tech 2 tools and how to apply them.  To sum up, Main Dealer:0, Fuse18:1.  Thank you Fuse18.

Thank you for this, a few things to go at for sure.
The stalk was fitted by my sons friend and I was not present but I am sure it was the one with the 2 lots of wires, a block of 4 wires (I think#) and a small 2 wire connector, but I will go back and check and feedback to you.
I also assumed they were using tech2 at the dealers but again, I will follow this up, likewise, I would have to assume that would know to use TIS but hey, its something to ask.
If someone can get us in contact with Fuse18, aka Marks DTM Calib, I’m sure we Could make it worthwhile with a trip to Nottingham !

regards

Omega General Help / cruise control

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help us out.
My eldest son recently purchased a 2001 Omega B with a Z22XE engine and auto transmission.
The car has starship mileage but is a really nice tight car.
The only thing missing was a cruse control which would finish it off a treat.
We got hold of a control stalk and fitted it in minutes.
The cruise did not work but checking back through the forum, all it needed was to be turned on.
We took it to a local dealer and they tried in vain to make it work.
The technician said the cruise control came up when the tech2 was plugged in but was ”ghosted out" so he could not turn it on for us.
He said he had not come across this before and would go back to the manufacture for us to follow it up.
(They also did not charge us for doing this which I think was very good of them as he spent quite some time trying different methods).
This he has done and they say it cannot be turned on, on this model.
Does anyone have any ideas ?

Regards
